LEGISLATION TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF OLDER PERSONS

• Age Discrimination Act (2004): prohibits discrimination based on age in employment and the provision of goods and services

• National Program of Action for the Elderly (2012-2020) encourages older people who wish to open their own businesses

• Articles 166 and 167 of the Labour Code 2012 addresses older workers’ rights; older persons are granted the right to work while receiving pension benefits as well as ensur-ing ‘decent work’

• Vietnam Women Union (VWU) programs for female elderly: Small Loans for Women; Advancement of Women; Intergenerational Self-help Clubs.

• Social Houses in Communities model: rely on support from the community volunteers to improve the living condi-tions of poor older persons
