• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Advanced Media Evaluation

• My music video projects I feel both challenge and follow the conventions of products you already see in the market.

• When I did research in to Newton Faulkner and other artists of similar styles I found that their were certain features of their products which I could incorporate into my own.

Page 4: Advanced Media Evaluation

• Using Andrew Goodwin’s Theories of analysis I can easily see that my music video conforms with

the majority of his concepts.

• The first thing which I can easily see is that my video represents the same characteristics of the music genre of the artist I have chosen (Newton

Faulkner). These features are that the videos heavily feature shots of the artists alone and

usually contain an instrument and focus heavily on location and setting.

Page 5: Advanced Media Evaluation

• In Goodwin’s second theory he states that in a music video their should be a

relationship between the video and its lyrics and in my video this relationship is easy to see. I Used this technique because it is very common in the videos of my chosen artist

and other similar musicians.

• The effect is good in this type of video because it gives a feeling of the video being

personal and makes the video feel more emotive.

Page 6: Advanced Media Evaluation

• Another theory which Goodwin presents is that which states the record label demands the types of

shot used in the videos.

• RCA Label which are theLabel which manages Newton Faulkner likes Their artists videos the containLots of images of them and be in desirable and semi

romantic or calming locations. The label does this because they want their artist to become known for a good image and make their artist recognisable.

• Another one of Goodwin’s theories states that the video should have a notion of

looking in the video. My music video is shot in the style of conventional filming and

I feel that this makes it better because it makes it feel like the video is being shot

alone and makes it feel like a smaller more personal video. This I feel makes it feel

more appealing to the audience

• Goodwin’s final theory states that in a music video their should be intertextual

references to other media products, such as t.v, film and other music videos.

• I feel my video did not contain references like this because when I did research my audience felt that a music video should contain that artist and song alone as it

means more advertising and exposure for that artist.

Page 9: Advanced Media Evaluation

• Overall I feel that my music video fits in well with the standard music video

conventions. I feel this because my video conforms with most of Goodwin’s theories

and statements.

• The fact that it does this means that it is considered a normal video and means that the majority of the public should like it.

• How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Page 11: Advanced Media Evaluation

• I firmly believe that my products overall match this statement and conform to the regularities of the music industry. I feel it is good that it does this due to this meaning a strong visual link between all three of my media products meaning viewers can easily notice my media products for this certain artist.

Page 12: Advanced Media Evaluation

• I feel it is good that my products fit the industry as it also means I can easily follow the standards set by certain genres of music in the industry. I have follow conformities due to my pictures being relaxing and calm which fits in with the style of music I have chosen very well.

• What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 14: Advanced Media Evaluation

• When I have looked at my audience feedback I found that my audience took to my products very well.

• I got the feedback that my music video very much fit in with the styles of similar artists in this genre and incorporated their features very well.

• The main bad feedback I got was that my video featured shots which were to long and sometimes felt stretched.

Page 15: Advanced Media Evaluation

• I realised this after filming and decided if I was to make a new video I would film shorter shots and put more cuts and transitions into my video.

• When I asked if this would improve my video my audience said yes but they still liked the video as it is now.

• How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Page 17: Advanced Media Evaluation

• When producing my media products I quickly realised that without the access to the technologies that I had I would not of been able to create any of my products to a high standard.

• During my research stages the most valuable asset I had was the internet and all it’s information. This was key to my research as it meant I could quickly and easily access videos from my chosen artist and other artists of the same genre.

Page 18: Advanced Media Evaluation

• The internet also helped because it meant I could research other products from artists to develop ideas of my own into more suitable products to fit the music style and music genre.

Page 19: Advanced Media Evaluation

• During my construction stage I used a variety of programmes to make my video including Pinnacle studio and Windows Movie Editor to piece my final movie together. I used Windows because it was a programme I was already familiar with and felt confident using its features.

• I used my own personal Samsung Digital video camera and found this easy to use as I had used it before and filmed with in previously.

Page 20: Advanced Media Evaluation

• Using Windows in editing my film meant that some effects could not be used and meant it might not have the finish of a professional music video but I personally felt this compromise would achieve a better result that trying to use an unfamiliar programme and having a worse video overall.
