• In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

My media product used the conventions of real media texts:

• I achieved this through the research stages pre my production.

• Through having a good understanding of what the conventions of real media texts were I was able to then follow these and conform to the conventional expectations of my audience.

• The use of these conventions assisted me in keeping a high sense of authenticity in my product.

I conformed to these conventions:

• I conformed to the conventions of the real media texts as opposed to subverting away from them because I wanted to keep an authentic realistic feel to my product and I felt the most efficient way to do this was to stay within the codes and conventions the products I researched.

How I did this specifically in my magazine:

• In my magazine I did this through following the same font hierarchies and colour schemes as the real media texts I had researched.

• I kept what I included on my front cover fairly similar to what I say was included on the magazines I read.

• The language I used I also kept similar so that my product could appeal to the right target audience.

How I did this specifically in my poster:

• There were not many posters I could find for new soaps so I had to alter what I researched and apply it to my brief.

• I used a reality TV show called ‘The only way is Essex’s’ to base my product on. I felt this was appropriate because It had the same target audience and had similar themes that I incorporated into my product.

• Things such as the lay out and style of ‘The only way is Essex’s’ poster I used to conform to the conventions I thought would be applicable to my poster.

How I did this specifically in my trailer:

• I conformed to the conventions of soap trailers through the editing and theme in my trailer.

• The editing was quick to keep a young audience active and hold their attention.

• The theme incorporating drugs and things that would relate to my target audience would also help were similar to that of real media texts.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts

Page 11: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

• I believe that the combination between my main product and ancillary texts were effective in such a way that I kept continuity throughout the products.

• Such as keeping the characters in the same clothes and for the magazine and poster I kept them in relatively the same pose.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 13: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

Through my audience feedback I have learnt:

• My Soap would have aired at the correct time for my specific target audience.

• The poster was effective in creating interest aimed at my target audience.

• The concept and narrative of my Soap would have been watched by the people I asked.

• The continuity was good.

Page 14: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

• I could have improved the realism in my magazine front cover.

• The Trailer could have had a voice over to inform the audience more of what they should expect to see.

• An older cast could have been more effective in relating to the audience.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?

Page 16: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

Photoshop:

• I used Photoshop in both my poster and my music magazine.

• The magnetic lasso tool helped me to crop out the images I inserted onto my background.

• Free transform to change the size of my images without loosing the quality.

• Text tools helped me when I was making my magazine and I was able insert the text of my choice

Page 17: Media A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation - Lettie Coad

IMovie:

• I used IMovie to edit my trailer.• I was able to put a soundtrack in over my

trailer to create a more authentic effect.• I cold use transitions and I had a selection of

different ones to move from one scene to another.

• I could also crop scenes down and adjust audio and video.
