Advanced Placement English Literature End of Year Project The following projects are all ideas from which each student may choose one . This project needs to be completed by __________; it may substitute for this class’s end of year 150-question final exam. However, its standards will be kept high and grading will be very rigid – if I asked specifically for something, I want it exactly how I asked for it. No excuses! The Quotes Project Type up any 100 lines, quotes, or portions of passages that have they would like to expound on. Arts and Culture ProjectStudents need to produce 25 original artistic pieces based on any 25 readings we’ve covered in class. Also, students need to review any 5 authentic artistic pieces based on literature. As well, analytic annexations must accompany each artwork. Requirements include:

(a) an annexed one-pager to each work reflecting the connection to the class.

(b) An art book(c) At least 5 3D works(d) Black&White or color optional(e) The 5 authentic pieces could be sculptures. (f) You may include photos(g) Human Element

The Theme ProjectStudents will respond, in the form of papers, to 30 themes defined in the works we’ve covered in our readings.

The Novel ProjectStudents must deeply analyze five of the novels read in class, and three outside readings.Each analysis must include:

The AP English/Study Skills ProjectStudents must produce a 30+ page study skills book, based on their knowledge of advanced placement, studying, and college research. Other tests may be included.Requirements include:(a) graphics on most pages(b) a posted website/page of summarized information

The Poetry ProjectStudents analyze any 50 poems covered in class, and they must write 15 of their own. 65 works in all.Each analysis must include:

The Film ProjectStudents must review 35 movies/films based on their new insight into the literary arts. Reviews must include: i. a structured format/page that you develop based on my required data. ii. all the genres: comedy, romance, timed, action, anime

adventure, foreign, independent, horror, remakes, documentary, drama, tragedy, dubbed from books, etc. iii. graphics of movie box iv. reviews must have archetypes discussed and labeled v. AP English PortfolioStudents must complete an in-depth study of the works covered in class. The portfolio is a hodgepodge of analyses based on a variety of items covered in class. The Music ProjectStudents must research 50 songs/musical pieces that relate to the items read in this class: 35 from class readings and 15 of their own liking. Classical, Jazz, Country, hip hop - basically all genres must be covered.Each analysis must include:

The Myth ProjectAn in-depth analysis in the stories behind popular Greek, Roman, Christian, and one other cultural myth; each culture or type of myth needs to have at least 8 stories where a study of the characters, events, and themes of the stories are developed. A total of 32 myths.Each analysis must include:

The Literary JournalStudents, while reading throughout the year, must produce a ¾ or entirely completed Composition book of reader responses. After reading the assigned readings, student must have responded to the style, development, tone, etc. of each of the readings.Each entry must include:

The Actor’s ProjectStudent deeply studies any 5 plays read in class, and 3 other poems/plays read or seen on one’s own. Requirements include:

a. Have a 3-page analysis of each play

b. Have a performance of any 3 dramatic monologues or soliloquies chosen from what was read in class.

c. Do an in-depth analysis of the character being performed.

The Language ProjectStudents look into the Language Network: English language definitively. Also, discussing the language of any 3 major and 3 minor pieces is important. Clarification and discussion on vocabulary, sentence structure, strategies, etc. should be looked into. Requirements include:

1. insightfulness, but creativity2. exercises for each section3. some exercises must include contemporary

(2007) material; no text books. 4. present or teach 2 sections to the class5. Human ELEMENT

The Really Writing ProjectStudents focus for this project will be writing and the development of their skill as writers. Students will write a collection of 30 papers based our readings.Requirements include:

a. 5 papers will be college essays for other studentsb. 20 based on any readings done in class (you may

not essays we’ve done in class).c. 2 outside independent readingsd. 2 on any political topic of intereste. 1 on any social topic of interestf. Human Element

The Short Storyist ProjectStudents will respond, in the form of papers, to 2 short stories and 2 essays discussed in class: 4 in all. As well, students will write their own 20 page short story. Students

a. Developing a character sketch of charactersb. Developing story line and plotc. Human ELEMENT

In Character ProjectStudents will have the opportunity to reproduce characters from their favorite works (Yes, paper or actual created dolls). 25 characters of 8 ½ x 11 figure or taller must somehow highlight the major traits and qualities of the character and how this developed the work. Note: You may use 5 characters from movies. Requirements include:

a. Developing a character sketch of characters which should be attached to caricature

The Talk Show ProjectStudent will be the host to a talk show completely independent of the teacher. Student will orchestrate the format, govern the rules, and develop a 45-minute show, possibly, in the media center or auditorium. Talk show must relay ideas and concepts covered in class based on our covered literature. (May be prerecorded –up to teacher)Note: Teacher must approve of ideas before grading. All planning is done by the student/host.Requirements include:

The Hero in Literature

Students will respond, in the form of papers, to all the major works read in class, paying particular attention to the heroic characters and 10 from movies you’ve watched.Requirements include:

Special Topics in literatureStudents will respond, in the form of papers, to any creative topics defined in 15 works we’ve covered in our readings. Students may look at nature in literature, parents in literature, the wayward child in literature, rape in literature, death in literature, use of drugs in literature, etc. Requirements include:

a. Must follow all the rules of compositionb. One (or two) special topics that is recognized in all

chosen works. (see teacher)c. Human ELEMENT or condition

ClickStudents will reproduce 20 pictures that represent stories or works read. Also, they will be presenting 10 of their own artistic pictures with their take on its universal theme - 30 in ALL.Requirements include:

b. Elaboration (1/2 page each) on pictures and the themes they represent.

The VeeJaying ProjectStudents must research 30 songs/musical VIDEOS. They must breakdown the video and analyze it for its meaning. What was the director and creative producer trying to do? Does it work with the song? Explain.

The Cartoonist ProjectStudents will respond, in the form of comic strips/comic books, to all the major works read in class, 3 minor works, and/or one original work, paying particular attention to the heroic characters, dialogue, and themes.Requirements include:

Fashion ForwardStudents create a worthwhile visual and written project that reflects clothes, jewelry, and/or accessories worn in the time periods of 8 works we’ve read this year. Requirements include:

a. Completion of 25 items in all: 20 from works and 5 original pieces

b. Minimally 5 items need to be 3-Dc. Ideas centered around class content: plays, novels,

poems, Short stories, etc. d. Human ELEMENT or conditione. A quality written paragraph/page needs to

NewspaperingStudents create a worthwhile project that teacher approves. May be Digital Newspaper Project (1-2 students):

Pick (4-5) major texts and 3-4 minor texts studied this year and design a newspaper where you can demonstrate mastery of each text. You must have long articles for each text that carefully explores plot character, setting, conflict and theme.Answer all the traditional journalism questions: who, what, when, where, why and how. Each article should have a headline and be accompanied by some graphics. Include authentic periodical features such as magazine/paper name, etc. You can do advicecolumns, cartoons, ads, feature stories, weather, gossip column, help wanted, etc. Pictures from the time period may be used to enhance your project.Requirements include:

AntagonisticStudents will respond, in the form of papers, to all the major works read in class, paying particular attention to the villainous characters and 10 from movies you’ve watched.Requirements include:

a. Elaboration of how these traits are brought aboutb. Must follow all the rules of compositionc. Must contain traits from Archetype Handbookd. All villains may not be another human being – pay

attention to setting, self, etc.e. Human ELEMENT or condition

Sportin’ LiteratureStudents make a correlation between characters/events from works read this year, and a sporting event, terms, or Sports superstar. As students make this connection, they must use, minimally, one vocabulary word and stock language item; each connection should be a minimum of a 2 paragraphs.

Requirements include:a. Completion of 20 connections/correlations.b. Pictures of the Sports star and/or work need to

accompany each entry.c. Ideas centered around class content: plays, novels,

poems, Short stories, etc. d. Human ELEMENT or conditione. A class/SAT vocabulary word needs to accompany

Ph.D. in Literature Students locate medical diseases or medical conditions that reflect characters or events in 20 works read this year. They then compile a chart that reflects the following:Requirements include:

a. Graphic of work (with bibliographics)b. Prognosis/Diagnosis of character/eventc. Human ELEMENT or conditiond. Possible response/solution to problem (based on

reading)e. Each entry must look like a chart.

Ad-Flyer/PosterStudents create worthwhile flyers that reflect ideas, items, content of texts used this year. Students creatively advertise or promote an aspect of a character or item or event from text.Requirements include:

a. A worth item/event from 35 works used this year.b. You must use CARD STOCK for your palm card

flyers.c. Ideas centered around class contentd. Human ELEMENT or conditione. A challenging characteristic determined by teacher

The Literary Devices Posters (LDP’s)35 Creative posters based on AP content, specifically literary devices, are made. (See teacher examples).Students go through their Little AP Handbook and provide a breakdown of these devices.Each analysis must include:

Cracking the Multiple ChoiceFor all the major works and 12 minor ones, student is expected to compile a list of 10 multiple choice questions each. A total of 20 works in all.Requirements include:

If not specifically given, students must come up with original topics and ideas to discuss based on class content. Each entry must be no less than 2:00 minutes. Yes, you may have guests. (All other stipulations apply).Requirements include:

The AP FINAL EXAMStudents could opt to come in on the day of the final and choose to sit the 150-question final, in lieu of any of the above projects. This final is not open book and will be given at the end of the year with the other finals that you have. It is, however, a culmination of the year’s readings and components, so that should make it easier to bear.
