The poison dart frog is very vibrant but super toxic. Colors range from: black and green with spots, red and blue with stripes, a variety of colors and patterns.

The dart frog ranges from sizes of less than an 1 inch to 2 ½ inches in body length.

The patterns and colors of these frogs ranges within species.

The skin of the frogs is were the poison is located.

Habitat Poison dart frogs live in the

rainforests of Central and South America and on few Hawaiian Islands.

Other poison dart frogs are found in habitats in Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia.

They are found in ponds, freshwater marshes, lakes or swamps.

They prefer subtropical or tropical high-altitude scrubland.

Behavior Male poison dart frogs are very

aggressive towards each other, defending their small territories.

Male and females make little noises when confronting, and they are known to wrestle for territories.

Male frogs defend the eggs that the female lays, and keeps them

moist with urine.

Fun Facts: the brighter the frog,

the more toxic it is.

The frogs got their name “poison dart” because the Indians would rub the tip of their spears on the frogs, loading them

with poison.
