The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. With the addition of women’s golf in 2014-15, the NE-10 now sponsors a total of 24 sports.

The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.).

The conference’s 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and from Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y. Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester and New York City. The Northeast-10 was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in the conference’s latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions. In addition, LIU Post (Brookville, N.Y.) is an associate member of the NE-10 in the sports of field hockey and football.

The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student-athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.

The conference is coming off yet another banner season in 2014-15. The Adelphi women’s lacrosse team repeated as national champions by defeating Lock Haven, 5-4, in the title game. Also, Southern Connecticut’s Chrystle Hill, Georgette Nixon, Sarah Hill and Shatajah Wattely claimed

the national title in the 4x400 relay at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

When it came to NCAA postseason selections, the NE-10 once again had another sensational year with 48 teams chosen to participate in national tournaments during the year. On top of that, representatives from 34 different

swimming and diving, cross country and track & field teams competed for national titles. Of those 48 teams, 13 different Northeast-10 institutions were represented, while nine teams from the conference advanced to at least the national quarterfinal round in national tournament play – a new NE-10 record.

From the field of play to inside the classroom, the Northeast-10 honored a number of student-athletes for their academic accomplishments. A record-breaking 73 percent of the league’s 287 athletic teams garnered a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Overall, nearly 59 percent of all conference student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2014-15 academic year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll (CHR) as a result. An astonishing 164 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall before 205 more did so in the spring. The Northeast-10 also honored 247 student-athletes as members of its academic all-conference teams.

The Northeast-10 also remains focused on its community endeavors. The conference has built a strong partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses with college sports teams. In 2015, the NE-10 became the first ‘fully-matched’ conference in Division II, as at least one team from each member institution has matched with a Team IMPACT child. More than 60 NE-10 teams currently have matches through Team IMPACT. The conference’s fundraising efforts for Make-A-Wish are also more than any other Division II conference in the country over the past decade.

Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 35 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.

David Duke was named head coach of the men’s basketball program at Adelphi University on April, 29, 2014 by Director of Athletics Danny McCabe. Duke, who helped rebuild programs at Hofstra University and Fordham University, completed his first season at the helm of the Panthers in 2014-15.During his first season, Duke helped guide Duane Morgan (’15) to becoming the 33rd played in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Additionally, Morgan was selected an All-Met First Team selection.

Duke, who was in his second year as an Associate Head Coach at Fordham in 2013-14 and fourth year on the bench, helped the Rams to an appearance in the Atlantic-10 Championship during his final season. He was also instrumental in recruiting the current Atlantic-10 and All-Met Rookie of the Year, Jon Severe. In those four years, Duke’s recruiting efforts helped elevate the talent pool considerably, leading to a resurgence of the program.

Duke started his basketball coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Hofstra University under the tutelage of now Villanova head Coach Jay Wright. He was then elevated to

assistant coach after two seasons. Duke worked under Wright for one season before joining Tom Pecora’s staff at Hofstra when he was named head coach in 2001.

An integral member of the staff at Hofstra, Duke helped the Pride become one of the top programs in the region. He was a part of two NCAA tournaments (2000 and 2001) and four Postseason National Invitation Tournaments including three in a row (2005-07) at Hofstra. During the 2005-06 seasons, the Pride tied a school record with 26 wins and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals.

Duke helped bring in a number of top level recruiting classes at Hofstra including the programs all-time leading scorer and three time Haggerty Award winner and Golden State Warrior draft pick, Charles Jenkins, and Antoine Agudio, Hofstra’s all-time leading scorer until surpassed by Jenkins after finishing 13th in the NCAA during 2007-08. In addition, Duke coached guards, Craig “Speedy” Claxton, who was chosen in the first round of the National Basketball Association’s 2000 NBA draft and Norman Richardson, who appeared in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers.

In 2003 and 2004, Duke was the head coach of the Long Island’s men’s open team at the Empire State Games that won

consecutive championships-the first time that Long Island has ever won back-to-back titles in the history of the Empire State Games. In 2003 Duke became one of the youngest coaches ever to win the gold medal in the open men’s basketball competition. In 2004, Long Island won the championship by an average margin of victory of 33 points per game. The team also averaged 100 points per game and beat New York City on the way to the championship.

Duke earned his undergraduate degree in 1997 from SUNY Albany where he majored in communications and minored in education. In the 1997-98 season, he played on the basketball team at nearby New York Institute of Technology.

Danny McCabe After a nationwide search, Danny McCabe was appointed Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation at Adelphi in July 2013 by former Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott.

In his first two years at the helm of the athletics department, the Panthers continued to set a standard of excellence in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning the school’s second consecutive Presidents’ Cup in 2013-14 before finishing second in 2014-15. In that time, Adelphi claimed seven NE-10 Championships, sent 15 teams to NCAA Tournament play and claimed two NCAA National Championships in women’s lacrosse. In 2015, the softball team reached the Women’s College World Series for the first time as a Division II program, winning the NCAA Division II East 2 Regional on Janet L. Ficke Field before sweeping the Super Regional on the campus of top-seeded Southern New Hampshire.

In the classroom, 12 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSida Capital One Academic All-District I Team honorees, including five Academic All-Americans from the men’s lacrosse (Nick Watson), women’s lacrosse (Devan Crimi, Alexa Froccaro), women’s soccer (Taylor Groth) and women’s basketball (Kelly Mannix) programs. Furthermore, seven teams earned the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Awards in 2013-14, while the softball program posted the highest GPA across all three NCAA Divisions; the program followed that up as one of four Panther teams to win an Academic Excellence Award in 2014-15, recording the highest GPA in the history of the award.

In addition to the success in competition and in the classroom, McCabe has been instrumental in expanding Adelphi’s corporate partners, bringing the sponsorships of TD Bank ®, the Whitmore Group, the Greene Turtle, and MetLife ® to the department. In 2015, MetLife Legacy Advisors became the title sponsor of Adelphi’s annual Fall Cocktail Reception, while MetroTeam Outfitters returned as Adelphi’s official gear sponsor and joined the roster of corporate partners as the title sponsor of the annual Ficke Golf Classic. The funds raised at these special events reached record levels, and membership in the Panther Club, the department’s major friend-and-fundraising arm, also doubled in 2015 to nearly 800 members.

McCabe has been instrumental in creating several new positions in the department, beginning with the addition of a varsity women’s golf program and the hiring of Keith Ferrara as the first full-time strength and conditioning coach. In addition, the department

created a new strength and conditioning center inside the Center for Recreation and Sports which features all the amenities required for a first-class program. Finally, in 2015, McCabe was chosen to begin a three-year term on the men’s basketball NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee and also serves on the ECAC Board of Directors.

McCabe came to Adelphi from Hofstra University, where he was a part of the Pride Intercollegiate Athletic program for eight years, as Executive Associate Athletic Director. He played a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the department and in that role McCabe spearheaded Hofstra’s NCAA Certification process, and played a large role in developing and implementing the University’s five-year plan for athletics. He also served as the chairman of the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals Organizing Committee at Hofstra in 2009 and 2011.

In addition, McCabe served as the program administrator for the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, volleyball and the men’s soccer program and had oversight responsibilities for the sports medicine and strength and conditioning departments.

Prior to Hofstra, McCabe was at Providence College where he served as Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations from 2000-05. In that capacity, he managed all athletic department marketing, promotions and sales strategies for the Big East institution. Under his guidance, the College experienced increased sponsorship sales and ticket sales and increased the average attendance at Friar men’s basketball games. McCabe also oversaw the Providence Athletic Ticket Office, managed their collegiate licensing program increasing revenue by 133 percent, and worked with the Director of Athletics in the department’s fundraising program.

Before his time at Providence, McCabe served as the University of Miami (FL) Director of Ticket Sales from 1998 to 2000. At Miami, he handled season ticket and group ticket sales strategies for the Hurricane’s football, baseball, and men’s and women’s basketball programs. McCabe also spent time in leadership roles in the marketing departments at both Fairfield University (1994-98) and Fordham University (1991-92). A 1991 graduate of Providence College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, McCabe earned a MBA degree from Fairfield University in 2004.

Long Island There’s more than plenty to do on Long Island. Arts, culture, history, beaches, golf and shopping.

There are five distinctive regions in Long Island North Shore, otherwise known as the Gold Coast, with dozens of historic sites dating back to colonial days and Gatsby-era mansions .

South Shore, the Island’s spectator sports and entertainment center, with world-famous Jones and Fire Island Beaches, and home to the New York Islanders.

Central Suffolk, with beautiful forests and natural inlets, the world’s largest factory outlet center and a huge water park.

North Fork, with an array of vineyards, waterfront ports and farm stands.

South Fork, widely known as “The Hamptons,” with its pristine beaches and exclusive villages.

It is impossible not to find something interesting to do and see in Manhattan. The most renowned of New York City’s five boroughs, Manhattan offers the best of everything—Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events, museums, shops, restaurants, parks, parades, cultural landmarks and one-of-a-kind neighborhoods. New York City is only 30 minutes from the Adelphi University Campus.

On a trip to Manhattan, you could:

• Head to Central Park to catch the finish of the New York City Marathon, or pack a picnic basket for lunch on the grass at Strawberry Fields;

• Ring in the New Year by watching the famous ball drop in Times Square;

• Catch a Tony Award-winning show or late-night TV favorite David Letterman on Broadway;

• See the Knicks take the court or the Rangers hit the ice at historic Madison Square Garden;

• Try your hand at any number of sports at Chelsea Piers;

• Get in the holiday spirit at the tree-lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center;

• Indulge your love of the arts at Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall;

• Visit the best-known address in the financial world: Wall Street;

• Spend a leisurely day walking through a unique neighborhood such as Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village or Harlem;

• Experience the great works of art you’ve discussed in class on a trip to Museum Mile along Fifth Avenue; or take a tour of the building that seeks to unite the world, the United Nations.
