Windows Phone Statistics Report

The global trends this month see a continued popularity of the lower end devices. The Lumia 535 and the Lumia 630 are still growing in numbers as the Lumia 520 continues it’s slow decline. The variety of different devices available means that the number of devices in use beyond the ten most popular, what we group together as “Other”, continues to grow.

The countries we look at in detail this month are: Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Poland and India.

We also take a new look at the devices in use and break them down by the size of the screen.

Data Source

This report is based on data collected from 5,336 Windows Phone apps runningAdDuplex SDK v.2 (and higher). The raw data analyzed was collected over the day ofJune 23rd, 2015 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated.

We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model namesunder their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare modelname variations were not accounted for.

AdDuplex is the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows Store apps and games empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps for free by helping each other. AdDuplex was established in January 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. As of June 2015, more than 10,000 apps actively use AdDuplex to gain more visibility.

The 520 has dropped 2.3% since the last month as it’s popularity continues to decline.The 535 and 635 have gained 1% and 0.8% respectively as these newer devices continue to see new users.The top ten is mostly unchanged since last month apart from the 625 dropping two places.The other section has grown 2.2% since last month.

Screen Resolutions June 23rd, AdDuplex

This month we’re reporting the screen resolutions of devices in use for the first time.The key summary figure here is 75%.Three out of every four devices in use are what are essentially WVGA.480x800 is WVGA.480x854 is WVGA on a device with a soft keyboard.540x960 is technically qHDbut is handled by scaling from WVGA.

The 635 continues to grow in popularity and is up 2.8% since last month.Collectively the 520 and 521 are down 2.3%.The 630 has dropped one place and 1.3% and is the only change in order in the top ten.The Other group is up 1.3%.All other devices have seen small changes of no more than 0.3%.

We last took a detailed look at Italy, three months ago, in March.Again we see the 630 take over as the most popular device. This time as the 520 has lost 3.6%The 535 has gained 3.8% to become the third most popular device in use.The other category has seen an increase of 2.8%

We last looked in detail at Germany in January. Back then the 630 was already the most popular device but has lost 0.9% since then.As elsewhere, the 520 has dropped. Here by 3.2%The 925 is up in second place and the popularity of the higher end devices is re-enforced by the 930 in third place.The Other group has gained 1.6%

Since we last looked at Poland in April, the biggest change is from the 535 which has gained 3.5% and become the second most popular device.The top ten is now all Lumia’s as the HTC 8S has slipped into the Other category and that category has also grown by 2.2%.
