Center for International Exchange Programs (CIEP) Kinjo Gakuin University

KGU is located in a suburban area of Nagoya, a city with an outstanding blend of tradition and advanced technology situated conveniently between several of Japan’s major cities.

Outline

Curriculums can be designed freely according to students’ interests and Japanese-language skills by selecting regularly offered courses in addition to the special courses for international students. International Student Advisors will provide support for academic matters or other problems. Courses are 1 or 2 credits each and meet once a week for 90 minutes. Special courses for international students include:

* Japanese Language Courses (3 levels) * Courses on Japan - Japanese Study A-D - Topics in Contemporary Japan / Comparative Culture (omnibus)

Events

International students will live in the KGU Inter-national House. The house is a 3-bedroom apart-ment equipped with a security system, furnished private rooms, and a common room. Resident Assistants live in the house to support international students and give advice on life in Japan as well as to plan fun events.

Activities

CIEP CIEP serves as an advisory body for interna-tional students. The CIEP staff members offer warm, caring, “family-like” support in study-related matters and life in Japan, and promote events throughout the year.

KING (student organization) The Kinjo INternational Girls will always be there to support international students from orientation to the closing of their time at KGU.

CIEP and KING organize various events to enable students to cultivate friendship with Japanese students. International students will always have friends at KGU!

*Weekly Lunchtime Gathering *Monthly “Cool World” culture events *Monthly “Cool Japan” events (Washoku cooking, craft, etc) *Seasonal Parties (Halloween, Christmas, etc) *Sporting Events *Semi-annual Bus Tour with KGU students (Kyoto, Takayama) *Semi-annual Industry Study Tour (Toyota, Seto, etc)

Language Partners Upon request, Language Partners can be as-signed to each international student based on their interests. Language partners will support Japanese study and life in Japan.

Homestay Programs The local homestay service organization will invite international students to their houses to introduce Japanese culture and daily life to students. Weekend homestays/visits to KGU students’ houses can be arranged upon request.

Semester

Kinjo Gakuin University, Japan’s leading private women’s university, has been growing in tradition since it was originally founded by two American missionaries in 1889. KGU has 12 undergraduate departments and majors covering a wide range of disciplines - from humanities and social science to natural science - and 2 graduate schools. On average, 30 of the school’s 5,500 students every year are International Students from Australia, China, France, Korea, Thailand, the US, and the UK.

Scholarship

International students will be offered various opportunities for volun-teering, such as a chance to be a presenter at a local elementary school to introduce their own culture. They can also work or volunteer as tutors on or off campus. There are also more than 50 clubs to join at KGU.
