Grade Eight Reading, Writing and
Mathematics Assessments Grade 8 students will once again be participating
in the Nova Scotia Department of Education
Provincial Assessments. This year the assessments
will take place during the following times: May
27, 28, 29, 30- 9:20-10:50 AM. The makeup day
is May 31st for students who are absent during
the assessment dates. It is important that all
Grade 8 students are in attendance for the
assessments.
This assessment will gather information about
individual student performance in reading,
writing, and mathematics. The results will provide
teachers with information to inform instructional
planning and the Department of Education and
Early Childhood Development and Abu Dhabi
Grammar School (Canada) with information to
inform educational decisions.
No special preparation is necessary. A positive,
relaxed attitude will help your child do their best.
What your child has been learning in school has
been preparing them for the assessment. Students
should come to the school well rested in
preparation for participating in the assessments.

KG2 Water
Project Shortly
after Spring
Break, the KG
students had a
fantastic time
exploring water
as part of our
science and math curriculum. Over a two week
period the students predicted which objects would
sink or float using various materials, used
important capacity vocabulary such as: full,
almost full, half, almost empty and empty. The
students had lots of fun exploring water and tried
their best to stay dry.
Literacy
Week at AGS April 22-26 was
Literacy Week at
AGS. Literacy
Week is a time
to think about
how important
reading is in our
everyday
lives. Our whole school took part in reading
events and activities including a school-wide art
project that will be on display soon. We had an
interactive display where students could add their
reading hashtags and we also created the new
"Book Nook"
in the outside
play area.
This is a
comfy spot
where
students can
sit and read in
their free
time. They
can also drop
off books they no longer want for sharing with
other students. This has been so popular it will
remain in place for the rest of the year!
AGS Book Fair AGS recently held
a Book Fair as
part of Literacy
Week in the school
library. Books
were provided by
University Book
Store and were available for purchase by all
students. Due to the great support from the school
community, a number of books were provided by
the University Book Store for our school library.
