Marilyn Monroe

• Actress Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson on

June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California.

• During her all-too-brief life, Marilyn Monroe overcame a difficult

childhood to become of the world's biggest and most enduring

sex symbols.

• During her career, Monroe's films grossed more than $200

million.

• Monroe died of a drug overdose on August 5, 1962, at only 36

years old.

• She was said to have supposed relations with JFK and other

influential men of that time.

• One of the most powerful and murderous dictators in history, Stalin

was the supreme ruler of the Soviet Union for a quarter of a century.

• His regime of terror caused the death and suffering of tens of

millions, but he also oversaw the war machine that played a key role

in the defeat of Nazism.

• That in turn lead to nuclear bombs.

• Which lead to large countries, the US and USSR in

• Peter Pan is a character created by Scottish novelist and

playwright J. M. Barrie.

• A mischievous boy who can fly and who never ages, Peter

Pan spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the

small island of Neverland as the leader of his gang, the Lost

Boys, interacting with mermaids, Native

Americans, fairies, pirates, and occasionally ordinary

children from the world outside of Neverland.

• Operation Peter Pan is a codename of the CIA project, in

course of which over 14,000 Cuban children were sent from

Cuba to Miami by their parents after rumors were spread that

the Cuban government led by Fidel Castro would soon begin

taking children against the wishes of their parents to military

schools and to Soviet labor camps.

• He was in the US army but didn’t fight much.

• The Cold War was quite a tense and oppressive time,

until pop music began to give young kids an outlet, that's

why the reaction was so hysterical.

• The tide of the times was very conservative until Elvis, youth

culture had been in the doldrums.

• In reality though Elvis was a big anti-Communist.

• Homicide is an act of a human killing another human. While

homicide is commonly thought of as criminal, it refers to the

act in general, which is sometimes legal.

• In October 1962, he was involved in the Cuban

missile crisis and it was 13 days of massive

tension that could have caused nuclear war as

Russia and the USA had these weapons.

• Kennedy looked inexperienced, young and weak

after he armed Cuban exiles (1500) and Castro

was ready with the army who supported him.

More on JFK…

• After the ideas from ex-comm, Kennedy chose a naval blockade

over Cuba and when soviet ships were to come into to any sort of

distance with it, they would turn back, despite what Khrushchev

said. Eventually they both agreed to end it and Khrushchev

dismantled the missiles on Cuba and Kennedy took the ones off

of Turkey.

• He was loved by many people and a president who wanted to do

something about all the terrible things in America and cared for

people, but in November 22nd 1963, he was assassinated by

Lee Harvey Oswald.

Ho Chi Minh 1890-1969

Ho Chi Minh

• Communism spread into Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh.

• Ho Chi Minh became one of the key figures in establishing

communist rule in Vietnam and became notorious throughout

the world as one of Communist’s strongest leaders.

• He organized the Communist revolution in Vietnam and can

be given much of the credit for reuniting Vietnam under

communist rule.

• In 1920 he became one of the founding members of the

French Communist Party.

• The Peace Corps help teach the public about the severity of

HIV/AIDS.

• Since 1960, the Peace Corps has saved many lives, they are very

determined to educate people and help them learn how to survive

the best way they know possible.

• They helped teach not only about HIV/AIDS but also about having

safe sex, how to decontaminate their water and what traditional

ceremonies such as castrating women, were wrong and very unsafe.

Bernie Goetz

• Bernie Goetz was a German who studied Electrical Engineering and

Nuclear Engineering.

• Bernhard Goetz, who shot four young black men on a subway car

the previous day, flees for New York City and heads for New

Hampshire after becoming the central figure in a media firestorm.

• Goetz was initially indicted on only three counts of illegal gun

possession, but prosecutors were dissatisfied with the insignificant

charges, and the grand jury reconvened in March.

• This time they charged Goetz with four counts of attempted murder.

The victims also instituted civil suits.

Connection Today

• Cuba - the economic blockade the U.S. still has in place is a relic

of the Cold War.

• Vietnam - the Cold War and its perpetrators (China, France, the

U.S., and the USSR) were responsible for dividing Vietnam in

1950, a 9-year war between France and the DRV, the partition

on Vietnam in 1954, non-compliance in the elections that were

never held in 1956, then a 15-year war in which the DRV won

and unified the nation under Hanoi's rule in 1975. The U.S.

ended its economic embargo against Vietnam in 1994.
