PREFACE
This is our second attempt to face NAAC accreditation. The previous
one, in 2012, gave us an insight and undoubtedly helped us to enhance the
qualitative and quantitative growth in the field of higher education. We take it
as an opportunity to assess ourselves in order to observe the seven criteria
provided by NAAC. The recommendations of NAAC Peer Team and our
follow up in last four to five years have enabled us to provide better
educational services to our stakeholders.
It’s our pride to serve Medha, a small village in the hilly area. There
were no other means of higher education in and around the village until 2002
and the village youths had no other choice other than farming or working as
mathadi (labour) in Mumbai. Hon. M. L. A. Shashikant Shinde Established
Jaywant Pratishthan in 2000 at the village Humgaon and Sanstha started
senior college in Medha village in 2002. Sanstha is successfully running
Amdar Shashikant Shinde Junior & Senior College of Arts, Commerce &
Science, New English School Kusumbi Mura and a Senior College having an
intake of more than 2000 students among them near about 65% of the students
are girl students.
After getting Accreditated by NAAC, Bangalore with C Grade (CGPA
1.86) in September, 2012, it has largely removed the bias amongst the students
of mofussil area that the quality education can be received only in urban
colleges.
The College is well set for the Second Cycle Accreditation by NAAC.
Since its inception, the college is trying to translate into action its vision and
mission. It’s dedicated, farseeing and transparent management, its research
oriented qualified staff, student centred teaching-learning process and thrust
on information and communication technology as well as its outreach
programmes have helped to satisfy, to some extent, the vision and mission. In
view of this, it is our pleasure to submit our Self Study Report (SSR) to the
NAAC, Bangalore.
The performance of the College is very well reflected in its curricular,
co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes and activities. The college and
the staff is honestly trying to embrace advanced education, information and
communication technology, art, culture and sports and harness the human
potential in the process of nation building. The societal needs are well defined
goals and the dynamics of academic, research and extension activities.
Outreach programmes, NSS activities, Cultural programmes including
organization of University youth festivals and Sports events at university, zone
and all India level. Academic Results with University toppers, which I feel, is
a distinct achievement. Our sincere effort these years has also proved that the
quality and value-based education is possible in villages also and it reflects
well on the institutional vision; to impart quality education.
I take this occasion to be grateful for and thank Coordinator and the
members of Steering Committee, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

for sharing the responsibility of drafting the Reaccreditation Report and I also
thank my staff, management and stakeholders for encouraging me in this
endeavour.
I am sure that our sincere efforts to make the citizens of India fully
endowed materially, intellectually and morally will prove fruitful in the
coming days and NAAC will appreciate our small endeavour.

Executive Summary
Jaywant Pratishthan was established in Humgaon village on 7th Nov.
2000 with its motto ‘Udhyominahi Siddhanti: Karyani na Manorathe’. Its
senior college was established in July 2002 with 106 students of B.A. &
B.Com I. This college opened the doors of education to the students of Medha
& its adjoining villages. The college is imparting quality and value based
education to the rural and hilly area students. We have also to our credit the
ranks in the University Merit, Youth Festivals, and University and All India
Sports Competitions. It has also proved that the quality and value-based
education is possible in villages also.
Amdar Shashikant Shinde Mahavidyalaya, Medha aims towards
offering quality education to its students, in fulfilment of all the specifications
laid down by the University Grants Commission, the Shivaji University (the
affiliating university), the Government of Maharashtra and the National
Assessment and Accreditation Council, and is set to welcome the second visit
by the NAAC Peer Team for its appraisal of this esteemed institution.
Since its inception, the college is trying to translate into action its
vision and mission. With the vision to make the citizens of India fully
endowed materially, intellectually and morally, the College attempts to nurture
their competence and creativity through innovations in teaching-learning,
research and extension activities, including the adoption and promotion of
knowledge output for human development, women’s education, optimum use
of human infrastructural facilities available, participation of all the
stakeholders in the development of the College, creation of awareness of
human rights, value system, culture, heritage, scientific temper and
environment.
IQAC was formed immediately after its first accreditation on
1/11/2012. The IQAC of the College has developed several quality assurance
mechanisms within the existing academic and administrative system. It
envisions Total Quality Management, for quality sustenance and improvement
in academic and administrative activities of the institution. It supports the
organization of workshops, awareness programmes, extension lectures,
curricula, teaching-learning and evaluation, research oriented seminars,
planning/implementation of advanced learning resources, ICT management
and suggestions for empowerment of staff, leadership and governance patterns
in strategic planning. Policies regarding quality assurance are communicated
in meetings of the different sub-committees, Staff Academy, Student Council
and Alumni, and to the University, State Govt. and NAAC through different
reports submitted annually (PBAS, AQAR). Representatives of all
stakeholders (management, teachers, students, non-teaching staff and Alumni)
remain present in the IQAC.
A brief survey of the academic and co-curricular activities, considered
criterion-wise, shall be worthwhile.

2.2.6 How does the institute collect, analyze and use the data and
information on the academic performance (through the programme
duration) of the students at risk of drop out (students from the
disadvantaged sections of society, physically challenged, slow learners,
economically weaker sections etc. who may discontinue their studies if
some sort of support is not provided)?
The data of academic performance of the students is noticed through previous results, attendance record, internal tests, mentoring and
feedback from faculty.
After identifying the students at the risk of drop out especially the slow learners are provided with special guidance, personal counseling, study
material, home assignments, tutorials etc.
The performance of such students is communicated to their parents from time to time.
The students from SC/ST/OBC & economically weaker section seek admission in the college. We therefore take special efforts in getting
government scholarships for such students which is in accordance with
our Mission.
The students who are prone to dropout due to their financial problems are provided with financial aid through S.A. Fund.
The students who are consistently absent are also prone to drop out. The attendance committee of the college displays the numbers of such
students on the noticeboard. The teacher mentors and other faculty
members make phone calls to them. This brings many students in the
main stream and saves them from drop outs.
Economically weaker students are also allowed to pay fees in installments.
Faculty members also extend financial support to such students.
