Welcome Classic Glass Corvette Club members and prospective members. Each month we update our club website to provide information about our club, members and activities.
As all are aware, the number of COVID-19 cases is on the increase and the impact to our daily lives continues; this includes so much of what
we had planned for our Corvette club. Governor Kemp extended Executive Order 04.08.20.03 and 04.08.20.05 for a period of forty-three (43) days, now set to expire on 11 August 2020 at 11:59 PM. This extension maintains the limitation for indoor gatherings to a maximum of 50 people and 6-foot separation. As a result, sadly, we’re forced to again cancel the CGCC General meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday, 11 August. Hopefully (cross your fingers), this order will not be further extended so we can hold our September meeting.
As we have done since the pandemic started in March, we’ll continue to monitor our Events Calendar for needed changes. Please continue to check it at this link (http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/events.htm) for updates.
Here are a few highlights from July: - On Sunday, 5 July, several of us drove our cars to Perimeter Mall to participate in the Caffeine & Octane car show and pass out flyers for our SuperVette Saturday charity event scheduled for 12 September at Day’s Chevrolet in Acworth. Special thanks to Bob Catapano and Roger Espinosa for setting up the Corvette Corral for us. - On Saturday, 11 July, we held another Corvettes & Coffee at Panera Bread, followed by a new member cruise to Fatz in Jasper. Thank you, David Klingensmith and Bob Zajicek. - Due to COVID-19, our 14 July General Meeting and 17 July Cruise to Rick Hendrick Museum in Charlotte, NC were both cancelled. - On Sunday, 19 July, a small group of us met at Governor’s Gun Club for a brunch. Same as for June, it was little different due to COVID-19 precautions – instead of a buffet, we ordered from the menu, but everyone had a good time. Thank you, Aileen and Scott Marshall, for organizing this fun event.

The club store continues to operate and sell club logo’d items. The Uniform Source-hosted CGCC Store continues to sell club apparel. A number of members have taken advantage of the easy ordering system and had items shipped directly to their home. Please go to our club website store, where you can see our club logo’d apparel and link (http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/members_only/store.htm) to the Uniform Source CGCC Store to place your order. Thank you, Rick Huntzicker, for the great job you’re doing to manage the store.
For August, our calendar includes a trip to Corvette Expo in Pigeon Forge, TN on the 7th and 8th, and a caravan to Corvettes at Carlisle (PA) from the 26th-30th.
Classic Glass Corvette Club gives us the opportunity to learn and have fun with our Corvettes. The more you participate, the better it gets!

SICK BAY Chris Reed, Sunshine Ambassador
Please keep Phyllis Fountain in your thoughts and prayers as the doctors try to determine what is going on with her heart. Larry Yon has been waiting for the go ahead on turning on his device to ease his back pain. This may now have been done and he should be doing much better. Sheila Catapano has had problems with dehydration and is being treated. David Klingensmith has been in Tanner Medical Center, Villa Rica with Covid 19 and pneumonia in his right lung. He is returning home Sunday, August 2nd.
Congratulations to Bill and Joyce Rawlings for beating Covid 19.
Please keep me in the loop for any news of which we should be aware.
Remember to wear your masks when appropriate. We need all the positive help we can get.
Chris
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Bob Zajicek, VP Membership
Frank Cangemi joined the Club in July and has a 2002 Millennium Yellow Indy 500 Pace Car Edition
convertible. Jose Hernandez is another July new member and has a 1989 red coupe. Welcome aboard
gentlemen!
In other news, we had a new member cruise July 11 right after the third relocation of Corvettes and Coffee
that Saturday morning. A good mix of old, new and not so new members caravanned to FATZ Pub in
Jasper. FATZ turned out to a be nice change of pace from Rocco's, just down the road several miles. We had
good food and service, and a fun time was had by all.
We will have a new member welcome cruise again on Saturday, August 15 right after the Corvettes and
Coffee to be held at the Panera Bread. I will send an invitation to all new 2020 members. Also, anyone who
attends Corvettes and Coffee is welcome to join us as well.
Our membership total is now 244.

Classic Glass Corvette Club Board of Directors Meeting Summary
July 7, 2020
Because of the continuing COVID-19 restrictions, we have not been able to hold our monthly club meetings. During the general meeting, officers review club business conducted during Board of Directors (BOD) meeting. Since this is not possible, a summary of the Board Meeting minutes will be included in our monthly newsletter.
For the first time since March, the BOD was able to resume in-person meetings at Bay Breeze Restaurant.
- Our President (Don Bailey) stated that the upcoming General Membership Meeting (GMM) on 7/14 is cancelled due to the Governor’s extension of the COVID-19 state of emergency and unavailability of the Cherokee Cattle Company. He said there is a possibility that we can hold a GMM in August. He also stated that the Rick Hendrick event was cancelled because the private museum has not reopened and there is no projected date to do so.
- Our store manager (Rick Huntzicker) was not able to attend. Don covered store items in Rick’s absence: Don said the online store has been set up and open for business. There have only been five sales so far. The store can be accessed through the club website. Chaz will send out an update to the reminding members that the store is up and running and how to access it.
- Bob Catapano reported for our SVS Manager Roger Espinosa. He and Roger are working together on SVS planning and to identify judges. Bob said that he would be taking the lead on SVS due to Roger’s work schedule. Don stated that Day’s Chevrolet confirmed that they are currently planning on hosting SVS on 9/12. Bob reported that we had a club contingent at Caffeine & Octane the previous Sunday (7/5) and it was a great success. SVS flyers were handed out and new contacts made. He is planning to continue this participation each month.
- Our Parade Liaison (Jerry Fountain) stated that our next parade opportunities will be in the fall with Veterans Day parades in November.
- Our VP Membership (Bob Zajicek) reported that we have 236 members. He will arrange a new members’ cruise following the Corvettes and Coffee event on 7/13 to Fatz in Jasper.
- Our Secretary (Ron Deering) said we were asked to write a club history for the Vettes of Atlanta magazine. Ron and BOD member Calvin Cruce are coordinating the article and accompanying photographs.
- Our Treasurer (Steve Boaz) reviewed the June financial report. Steve also reviewed his proposed budget items requiring member approval because the amounts exceed the Bylaw limit of $500. This led into a discussion of the outstanding proposed bylaw amendment to increase that limit to $1000. Steve said the revised amendment wording was ready to submit to the members. It was agreed that Chaz would eBlast a letter to the membership notifying of the upcoming online vote to take place on 14 July. The letter would advise that voting would be requested for the ability to conduct online voting (for other than elections), the change from $500 to $1000, and approval of the 2020 estimated expenditures. The eBlast would explain the need to allow online voting to amend the Bylaws due to circumstances such as being currently experienced with COVID-19 or other unforeseeable events preventing an in-person meeting. Don and Chaz will draft an email ballot to the membership to amend the Bylaws to increase the Treasurer’s check-writing limit, approve 2020 estimated expenditures, as well as to allow online voting to amend the Bylaws.
- Our National Corvette Museum (NCM) Ambassador (Carolyn Deering) said the USA Today 10-Best Readers’ Choice voting closed 7/6 and the results will be available 7/17. NCM has also announced a newsletter, website, and social media contest. She will be submitting a newsletter later this month to the NCM for consideration. The NCM anniversary registration on 9/3-5 has not opened yet. The June work weekend was cancelled but will be rescheduled when the museum is able to handle us visiting, probably in the fall.
- Our past president (Doug Reed) discussed an option of using the Zoom application for a membership meeting. Don and Chaz explained the impracticality for groups over 25 people. Doug also stated that we have no backup location for holding a GMM. A few options were mentioned that the club might use, but most could not hold the expected group size or would charge to use the space. Carolyn suggested that the next GMM could be held in conjunction with the planned September picnic.

Classic Glass Corvette Club
2021 Nomination Letter
David Klingensmith, VP At-Large
Hello Fellow CGCC Members:
It’s that time of year again when we ask for nominations for next year’s officers and board members.
We need YOU! to keep the club going. And believe us; aside from some tasks that go along with each position, it’s only one extra meeting a month for eleven months and a holiday party at the end. What more could anyone want?
Please, consider volunteering.
For those who have been officers and board members in the past and decided to “retire” please consider reactivating yourself as you are seasoned role models for the Next Generation.
For those of you who have been with the club for a few years but haven’t taken that leap, please consider leaping.
For new members who really want to participate fully in this wonderful club, please do. Filling a board position is a good introduction if you don’t feel you want to be an officer right out of the gate.
An extra meeting a month, that’s all we ask.
Thank you all,
Your Nominating Committee Please contact Don Bailey if this message has moved you to volunteer or you wish to nominate someone for a position.

A Moveable (Break)Feast By Meredith Lewis
Photos by Phil Lewis
The July weather bade fair on that Saturday morning as a stream of Corvettes pulled into the parking
lot at Sweet Hut in Marietta for coffee and conversation. Our intrepid Vice President At-Large, David
Klingensmith, had personally checked the venue beforehand to ensure that it would be open for our Corvettes
and Coffee get together. Alas, the opening time had been moved that morning from nine to eleven a.m.
There was a huddle in the parking lot as various other venues were discussed. A message was taped to
the door advising latecomers to move on to the Panera Bread on Chastain near KSU. An impromptu Corvette
caravan wound its way through quiet streets to Panera, where a sign on the door stated an opening time of ten
a.m., more than 45 minutes hence. Additional discussion ensued. While Doug Reed and Phil Lewis drove to
the Dunkin Donuts down the strip to see if it was open and whether there was patio seating, the rest of the
group decided to caravan once more; this time to the Panera Bread on Barrett Parkway. Reunited with wives,
the Reed and Lewis cars followed a few minutes later.
Hallelujah! Panera Bread on Barrett was open, and Corvettes and Coffee triumphed, once again
proving that nothing can keep this group from enjoying food, companionship and happy conversation.

Corvette Salute to the USA
By Cory Vette
Photos by: Calvin Cruce, Harriette Majoros, Dawn Norman
Picture this if you will….. A quiet 4th of July in a small Georgia town with no celebration or parade.
For the first time, the town square had very little activity on the great national holiday due to COVID-
19.
Suddenly, the roar of 12,000+ horsepower rounds the corner and begins to circle the square!!
Twenty-eight gorgeous Corvettes, adorned with American flags and other décor, create a parade to
celebrate the declaration of America as a separate country and all the blessings and opportunities
the USA has provided.
Parade organizer and Chief Patriot Tom Wilder led the cadre of Corvettes around the square as
onlookers waved and shouted, “Happy 4th of July”!! One veteran standing on a corner shouted his
appreciation to each of the participants. Another bystander put his hand over his heart and shouted
‘Thank you for the parade’; he alone could have made the whole parade worthwhile.
It is truly appropriate for America’s Sports Car to celebrate America’s Birthday, even in a time of
adversity and lack of celebration by most of the country.
Many thanks and a “Corvette Wave” to Tom and all the participants in Marietta’s only 4th of July
parade.

Delamination of Console Leather Winston Whitlock
My Vette spent six weeks in the shop having a rare convertible top hydraulic failure repaired. The morning
after getting my 2015 C7 back, I noted that the leather on the console had formed a bubble. The leather had
obviously come unglued.
Searching the Internet, I found that one can purchase a replacement for around $285.00! Given that there
might be some slight color differences due to age, I sought a different solution.
Because leather is supple and ordinary glue could make a mess of the leather, I called my faithful interior
touch up guy, Bill Smith of Bill Smith Interiors. Bill recommended Dave Stewart at BK&D Custom
Upholstery at 1995 Airport Industrial Park, near Dobbins AFB.
Dave removed the console cover assembly and a week later, I got it back…good as new. The cost was way
less than a replacement. Dave said that because of the way GM makes the console cover, the underlying
support had turned to “dust”. It could have been the heat of sitting outdoors that exacerbated the problem.
The leather was in great shape as I regularly clean it with saddle soap moisten it with leather cream.
