Side mounted chain tensioner provides easy operator access for chain tensioning to accomplish more accurate cuts.

The externally mounted sprocket makes fitting the chain simple and uncomplicated.

Large, easy access oil and fuel caps fit flush to machine housing and feature an “S” design with trapezoidal thread – to allow for easy removal and to prevent from over-tightening.

No horizontal surfaces within the airbox prevents accumulation of debris. Additionally, an airtight collar on filter housing prevents penetration of dirty intake air!

The convenient primer bulb transfers fuel from the tank to the carburetor to ensure quick, hassle-free starting.

Unique new design, this spring-assisted starter combined with a low-RPM ignition coil reduces operator exhaustion by significant reduction of resistance required to start machine.

At the heart of these new DOLMAR saws is the die-cast magnesium engine block which enable strong torque production and high RPM production.

Touch&Stop and Locking ignition switch provide operator with simple shut-off maneuver and the ability to “lock off” the ignition to prevent unintentional starting.

“Airmaster” Air Filtration System The air filtration system developed by DOLMAR filters out coarse wood particles in Chamber 1, and only the finest particles enter Chamber 2 with the air filter. This greatly reduces contamination, and the filter does not require cleaning as often.

Tool-Less Filter Servicing Service-friendly. Release two steel clamps and remove the housing. Another clamp holds the air filter, which offers 20% greater filter surface in spite of its compact design.

Integrated Chain Brake With exterior sprocket.This greatly simplifies chain installation and cleaning of the chain area.

Oscillation Damping Oscillation damping is by means of strong, long-life steel springs. They require less space and are resistant to oil and gasoline.

Chain Tensioning and Lubrication

Here’s how to make your chain last longer and your work easier.

Developed for professionals - applicable for all projects!

Check Chain Tension Regularly

Regular checks and adjustments of chain tension will

prolong the life of your saw chain, and will ensure safe

operation. A simple clockwise turn of the chain-

tensioning screw easily adjusts the tension of a sagging

chain. Chain tensioning using the lateral tensioning

device in professional-model chain saws (pages 11 & 13).

Power-To-Weight Ratio

A good chain saw should be as light and handy as possible

but still possess the power to produce high cutting output.

The ratio of power (in kW), and motor weight (in lbs) is

therefore an important comparative value when selecting the

correct chain saw. DOLMAR chain saws distinguish

themselves with a very favorable power/weight ratio by the

use of modern lightweight construction materials and

precision workmanship. The DOLMAR PS-7900, for example,

provides 4.5 kW at a weight of 13.6 lb. This results in a very

impressive power/weight ratio of .34 kW / lb.

Check Chain Lubrication

Before operation, check the proper function of

the automatic chain lubrication system. Simply

hold the running saw chain over a piece of

cardboard or a tree stump. If an oil stripe

appears after a brief time, the blade and the

chain are properly lubricated with saw-chain oil.

Digital Ignition System

The intelligent electronic-ignition circuit determines the optimum ignition-timing point for all modes of operation from idle to full throttle. It ensures an easy start, good fuel efficiency, and automatic RPM limiter. The electronic ignition systems of PS-460 through PS-7900 and PC-6412 through PC-8140 optimize the ignition spark when the compression-relief valve is open to ensure an even easier, quicker, and reliable motor start.

Compression Release technology reduces the compression for the start process, thus ensuring up to a 70% reduction in start force, more powerful ignition spark, and better mixture control. This means a quick, reliable start. Technicians call this a compression-relief valve. A simple press of the Compression Release button opens the valve. As the piston travels upward (compression stroke), a precisely-determined amount of combustion mixture escapes. This reduces the start force required. Nevertheless, the compression necessary for reliable ignition still exists. The high combustion pressure of the first ignition automatically closes the valve, and high compression is restored.

As a leading manufacturer of motorized devices, DOLMAR considers itself to be committed to environmental protection to a special extent. DOLMAR drives development of low-emission motors using large investitures and much expertise. This is for the sake of clean air and overall protection of the environment. All DOLMAR machines are well within compliance of the European Exahust Gas Guideline 2002/88/EG. The clean DOLMAR LE carburetor is standard for all DOLMAR chain saws. Never too rich. Ensures proper fuel/air mixture. The result: low fuel consumption, clean exhaust gas, and a long motor life.

The new Easy Start system integrates a spring loaded reel which – when released – applies motion to the flywheel through the strongest resistance phase of the starting cycle. The operator’s pull of the starter rope is divided into two distinct stages: a) the initial pull of rope loads the spring coil in the reel – which releases at maximum load and begins motion of flywheel. Then, b) the second stage of rope pull directly engages the flywheel – now at a higher speed and lower resistance phase of starting. Combined with a low-spark ignition coil – the Easy Start system provides: less operator resistance, surer more dependable starts, smoother ignition and lower mechanical wear to starter assembly.

Most DOLMAR gasoline-powered chain saws possess an automatic oil pump. It switches off at idle, operating only when the chain is moving. This saves chain oil and provides environmentally friendly operation. The amount of oil pumped can be adjusted based on the blade length used.

Starting aid for cold starts. Press the plastic ball several times to pump fuel to the carburetor. This minimizes the number of pulls to start.

Chain saw operators in forestry and private users expect the highest possible cutting output and low weight from their chain saws. DOLMAR motors are highly developed power plants with high torque even at low RPM. This provides an important cutting reserve. Computer-driven development of modern two-cycle motors and a stable maximum RPM level provide the desired racy acceleration. The modern multi-channel technology and a perfected gas-exchange control reduce exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. Modern materials in connection with proven metal materials provide DOLMAR motors with high reliability and long service life. The results are economical, practical motors to provide reliable cuts when felling, shortening, and branch trimming.

A good chain saw should be as light and handy as possible but still possess the power to produce high cutting output. The ratio of power (in kW), and motor weight (in lbs) is therefore an important comparative value when selecting the correct chain saw. DOLMAR chain saws distinguish themselves with a very favorable power/weight ratio by the use of modern lightweight construction materials and precision workmanship. The DOLMAR PS-7900, for example, provides 4.5 kW at a weight of 13.6 lbs. This results in a power/weight ratio of only .34 kW / lb.

The saw chain consists of right and left cutting teeth, drive links, and connecting plates riveted together. The drive links run in the slot of the guide blade, and transfer the drive force from the sprocket of the clutch drum. The cutting edges of the teeth raise the planer shavings from the wood. The cut depth is determined by the differing heights of the roof cut and the depth limiter. The chain saw’s degree of efficiency is dependent on the state of sharpness of the cutting edges on the teeth.

All DOLMAR chain saws are distinguished by a particular safety feature - a chain brake operated either manually or by inertia. The electric saw is equipped with an additional micro-switch that simultaneously interrupts the current to the motor. SafetyMatic guarantees that the saw chain stops in a split-second.
