easyCBM is a district assessment system designed to address all three tiers of the Response to Intervention process for grades Kindergarten to 8th grade. This tool gives administrators, teachers, and intervention specialists a full range of assessment and reporting options to best serve their school district. easyCBM provides a diverse portfolio of reading and math curriculum-based measurements that can be used for universal screening, intervention planning, and progress monitoring, providing data educational teams need to drive decision making.

It is important to note RTI is a general education initiative, so easyCBM is intended to help both General Ed and Special Education – Not just a special education tool. It is designed to be a bridge between progress and planning. It is also meant to provide guidance for early intervention to reduce number of referrals to special ed and only have those students who are truly “not responding” assessed for special education There are two aspects to RTI – assessment and instruction. easyCBM focuses on the assessment and provides data meant to drive intervention or instructional decisions.

The website was designed to be simple, intuitive and to be accessible as much as possible to a wide variety of users. For example, math assessments were created to reduce the language load on math concepts (e.g., written two grade levels below), font size was increased so that the content could be easily read, and the math questions can be read aloud by the teacher/examiner.

Benchmarks longer? – In math – Benchmarks cover all three focal points in math, where progress monitoring measures are available for each focal point. They are still adding MS measures. K-5 is completely done (17 reading, 10 math). Adding 8 more comprehension for 6th reading. New reading measures 3-8 will match math (10 forms).

Benchmark Performance Report for Individual Students

The new Benchmark Performance report for individual students shows how the student did on all of their benchmarks for the entire school year. It uses an easy to interpret gauge that corresponds with the district's customized percentile cut-scores. There are options for displaying the percentile numbers, and flipping the rows and columns for a different view of the data. This is a useful report for teachers to share and hand out at parent conferences.

Grade Comparison Report for Buildings

This new report allows principals or other building-level and above users to compare student performance across grade levels, or by teacher for a given grade level. All grades for the school are listed, and data can be viewed for a particular measure type, or subject (e.g. reading or math). Clicking on a Grade link in the picture below would drill down into that grade level and you would see a similar looking report, except teacher names would take the place of the grade level links. This report introduces a new interface element described in the legend/key below the report: the colors in the bar indicate the percentage of students (for the grade or teacher) that fall into the High (red), Some (yellow), or Low (white/green) Risk categories. The background behind the bars indicate how students would normally be distributed, depending on the district’s percentile settings (e.g. 10% of students in Red, etc). Hovering your mouse over a fall, winter, or spring bar will highlight that same season for the other grades, making for an easy cross-comparison of just that season, and hovering over a particular color will display the percentage of students in that group.

It quickly lets you see the answer to several questions, such as how a particular school performed across fall, winter, and spring (as well as compare that to other schools), how all of the schools compared just on the Winter benchmarks, how a particular school performed compared to the norm group (the background behind the bars), etc. This report is useful in helping districts make resource and other decisions.
