RELATED CONCEPT: Metamorphosis is “any complete change in appearance, character, circumstances etc.” (The Macquarie Dictionary, 1985, p.251).In this folio you will be required to observe and translate your everyday environment or the subjects within it. You will need to observe in your subject particular forms, shapes, surfaces, patterns and colours to develop a series of simplified, exaggerated, stylized, distorted and abstracted designs.FOCUS: •SIMPLIFICATION•EXAGGERATION•STYLIZATION •TRANSFORMATION•DISTORION

TASK: After researching and developing a range of images and experimenting with a variety of styles and media to interpret the concept of metamorphosis(your own focus), produce a resolved major artpiece.

Folio Development

Trials: (experimentation) good art practice is evident when experimentation is conducted off the main artpiece. All trials of colour mixing, media use, composition, subject matter creation and techniques should be included in your folio.

Research: needs to be evident in your folio, do not just print images from the internet. If you wish to include internet images the artist’s name, title, date of production and website should always be included. Artists and art movements relevant to the concept should be researched and documented in your folio. Magazines are fabulous resources for ideas and great to stimulate creativity – use them – we have an enormous collection available. Don’t work in solo use the art practices that precedes you.

Art Print: Metamorphosis VII–Dominant Raptor by Jody F. Sjogren

Inspired by the majestic power of the Bald Eagle and the technological wonders of the F-22 Raptor, artist Jody F. Sjogren captures the association between these two “dominant raptors” of the skies. Who has not marveled at this great American bird of prey on the wing, or pondered the fierce force of its curved talons and hooked beak? Wherever it flies, Haliaeetus leucocephalus dominates its territory. Above all other raptors (eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls), it reigns as America’s symbol of national pride and strength. In military parallel, Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor guarantees “air dominance” in aerial warfare. As the first of the United States Air Force’s fifth generation fighter aircraft, the F-22 prevents hostile aircraft and missiles from denying U.S. operations worldwide, day or night. The Raptor’s combination of maneuverability, speed, stealth, integrated avionics, and supportability multiplies its advantages in both air-to-air and air-to-ground environments. In any airspace and any situation, the F-22 gives its pilot unsurpassed control of the engagement. By the genius of its designers, it has become — like its living counterpart — the dominant raptor of the skies.

I have created SSarts.com in order to showcase some of my personal fine art and design pieces, while also allowing me to experiment with various web development practices and technologies. When I’m not at work designing toys for Sportsstuff, I enjoy creating web site designs and original artwork primarily in graphite pencil, colored pencil, or digital media. Some of my work can currently be found in the Fine Art section of this site. I also try to post regular updates to pieces I am currently working on in the Current Projects section of the site. Subscribe to the RSS Feed to be informed of any new updates. I hope you enjoy the artwork displayed on this site as much as I enjoy creating it. Feel free to email me with any questions, comments, suggestions or commission requests.shawn [at] ssarts [dot] comEnjoy the site. No date for production or posting to blog given

Artist Amy Ross works in the bizarre hinterland where art confronts

science, and in enchanted realms where the boundaries between

living organisms blur. Birds become mushrooms, and mushrooms birds. Magnolias bloom into cardinals and sheep, while birch trees morph into

animal and human forms

Metamorphosis Iin Traditional Art – Drawing August 2007

Artist's Comments Metamorphosis from organic to geometric.

Page 22: “a complete or marked change of physical form, structure, or substance”

Anyway, this was for one of my earlier college drawing classes from about a couple years or so ago. It was a pretty fun project. We had to take an object and make a sequential metamorphosis out of it. In this case, I did two. It starts with a computer mouse and splits into two different evolutions, a mouse and a snake (and yes, they're albino). When they've fully evolved, the snake ultimately devours the mouse. (I guess you could say it's a little Darwinian, the whole "survival of the fittest") But then it digresses back into a computer mouse again as you follow the coiling tail. I had fun playing around with the conception of this one.

Been working on this all weekend. The marker I used is almost dry now -_- But I think I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Basically a vampire man shifting to his more human-like form.

UPDATE: I was actually asked by one of the head people at SFGOTH.COM to use this as their button logo for the 2006 Aidswalk San Francisco. I agreed, since their walk was for a wonderful cause. I even recieved a few of the buttons from them!

Page 25: “a complete or marked change of physical form, structure, or substance”

Artist's Comments This is the over-view of the

accordion book I spent more than 34 straight hours in the studio working on. Did I mention I hate etching? I

touched up each print a good deal to increase contrast.

The metamorphosis is a man standing in a field with a stormy sky to a lighthouse by the ocean with a

clear, starry sky. It's symbolic to me; having to do with the tragic death of

a friend.

I'll post frame by frames soon.
