    OPERATUONADD GASOLINE

o FIllfuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular unleadedgasoline.. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbonand lead oxide deposits and reduce valve life)..

IMPORTANT: WHEN OPERATING tN TEMPERATURESBELOW 32°F(0°C), USE FRESH, CLEAN WINTER GRADEGASOLINE TO HELP INSURE GOOD COLD WEATHERSTARTING.

WARNING: Experience indicates that alcohol blendedfuels (called gasohot or using ethanol or methanol) canattract moisture which leads to separation and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. To avoid engineproblems, the fuel system should be emptied before stor-age of 30 days or' longer. Drain the gas tank, start theengine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor areempty. Use fresh fuel next season_ See Storage instruc-tions for additional information.. Never use engine orcarburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.,

TO START ENGINE (See Fig, 9)When starting engine for the first time or if engine has runout of fuel, itwill take extra cranking time to move fuel fromthe tank to the engine.

o Depress the clutch/brake pedal and set the parkingbrake.

o Place gearshift lever in "NEUTRAL" position.

    • Move attachment clutch to "DISENGAGED" position.

. Pull choke control out to "CHOKE" position for coldengine start. For warm engine start do not use chokecontrol

o Move throttle control to midway between "FAST" and"SLOW" positions.

° Turn ignition key clockwise to "START" position andrelease key as soon as engine starts. Do not runstarter continuously for more than fifteen seconds perminute° Ifengine does not start after several attempts, move throttle control to "FAST" position, wait a fewminutes and try again.

o When engine starts, slowly push choke control in.

    • Move throttle control to "FAST" position..

, Allow engine to warm up fora few minutes beforeengaging clutch/brake pedal or attachment clutchswitch.,

NOTE: If at a high altitude (above 3000 feet) or in coldtemperatures (below 32 ° F), the carburetor fuel mixturemay need to be adjusted for best engine performance_ See"TO ADJUST CARBURETOR" in the Service and Adjust-ments section of this manual.

    MOWING TIPS

Tire chains cannot be used when the mower housingis attached to tractor.

    • Mower' should be properly leveled for best mowingperformance. See "TO LEVEL MOWER HOUSING" inthe Service and Adjustments section of this manual_

    • Use the runner on the right hand side of mower as aguide. The blade cuts approximately an inch outsidethe runner (See Fig. 11),.

o The left hand side of mower should be used for trim-ming..

    • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the areathat has been cut. Have the cut area to the right of thetractor. This will result in a more even distribution ofclippings and more uniform cutting..

    • When mowing large areas, start by turning to the rightso that clippings wil! discharge away from shrubs, fences, driveways, etc., After one or two rounds, mowin the opposite direction making left hand turns untilfinished (See Fig.. 13)..

= If grass is extremely tall, it should be mowed twice toreduce load and possible fire hazard from dried clip-pings° Make first cut relatively high; the second to thedesired heighL

° Do not mow grass when it is wet. Wet grass will plugmower and leave undesirable dumps. Allow grass todry before mowing,

° Always operate engine at full throttle when mowing toassure better mowing performance and proper dis-charge of material. Regulate ground speed by select-ing a tow enough gear to give the mower cuttingperformance as well as the quality of cut desired.

° When operating attachments, select a ground speedthat will suit the terrain and give best performance ofthe attachment being used_
