The dark, shadowy image connotes mystery and makes the audience uncomfortable and curious, things which ensures they watch for longer. The concept that we cannot see what is on the page reinforces the mystery in the shot. The low shot makes us feel somewhat inferior and as the camera is so close up we feel in a dangerous position. The light and dark contrast within the shot intensifies the situation and could possibly portray the dark, twisted characters or plots to come.

The abnormal hands in the shot portray irregularity and danger, both of which ensure the audience are gripped into watching longer as they’re curious of what is to come. The high shot puts the audience in the perfect view to see what is going on in the shot below, putting the viewer in an awkward position as there may be something they don’t want to see, such as the abstract hands in the book.

This shot shows stacks of books in an old, used cardboard box. The high shot again reveals dark imagery of the books which were in the first shot. The dark colours again connote mystery within the film and the quirky writing of the title ‘SE7EN’ suggests an awkwardness, that it almost doesn’t want to be there as it has something to hide.

This image is super imposed on top of one another, creating confusion for the audience. The child-like writing possibly connotes a uneducated background. The close-up shot again makes the audience feel awkward as there is possibly something they don’t want to see and the dirt fingernails depict an unstable lifestyle, again portraying risk and danger within the storyline.

The disturbing picture within the shot depicts danger to the audience and suggests a twisted, unsettling viewing to come. The close-up shot again puts the audience in an awkward position, especially while being faced with this gross picture. The dark splodges also connote a chaotic, messy lifestyle in which they haven’t had time to take care of their possessions. It could also be that it is simply old, which in its own way scares the audience as to a mainstream, typical audience death would be terrifying.

This high shot shows writing being crossed out by the person we still haven’t seen, reinforcing the mystery as to why he is doing this. This could possibly depict the character writing out all the evil from the page or possibly all the evil he’s committed. The old-fashioned writing indicates a formal, structured letter of much importance.

The dark, peculiar image intrigues the audience to watch longer as it doesn’t fully explain or reveal what’s going on. This again reinforces the curiosity for the audience, and the shock of what may be to come. The close-up is very intermit and puts the audience in an uncomfortable position for viewing, something that possibly would put the audience off watching it, but because of the huge force of curiosity created through the images they still continue to watch.

The extreme close up shot of the characters hands shows that it is probably a man, and the sharp object he’s holding makes the audience cringe due to the danger of the object. The messed up writing which is super-imposed over the image creates a confused atmosphere for the audience, which is foreshadowing for the confusing events to come.

Finally, this extreme close up shot shows creepy images of children where their eyes have been crossed out, symbolising the way they may have been crossed out of existence by this murderer. The old fashioned photos again create a peculiar atmosphere as it indicates what happened to this boy, happened a long time ago in the past. It may be that this is simply one of his victims at a younger age, and the way he’s crossed out his eyes could indicate the way he’s going to crossed him out of existance in the future.
