MP + CAF + Standards = Instruction
In order to design instruction that meets the rigor and expectations of the CCSSM, understanding the Mathematical Practices and Critical Areas (of Focus) are essential.
Critical Areas of FocusCritical Areas of Focus informinstruction by describing themathematical connections andrelationships students develop inthe progression at this point.
Grade 8- Three Critical Areas of 1. Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations
2. Grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships
3. Analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

Constructed Response Assessments
Research identifies insurmountable success of those who take part in collective learning. The key is to accept input from colleagues while developing new strategies, facilitating new lesson ideas, and envisioning the new possibilities (Marshall, 2012).
Sharing Ideas and Strategies
Each member of the group will share his/her lesson or strategy, noting the standard(s) being addressed. Give hard copies to all those at your table.
Choose the person from your table who will share their terrific idea with the large group.
At 2:05– Each selected table member will share their idea with the large group. *at this time, distribute your copies to the remaining teachers
