A W A R E N E S S C O U R S E
. . . is a two-day course in which seafarers are
interactively involved in the subject
of sustainable shipping.
The course (MEAC) focuses on the human
element and forms a concrete basis
for knowledge and awareness needed for the
prevention of pol lut ion at sea. The partic ipants
become aware of how they can personal ly
contribute to the sustainable development of
the marit ime industry. Course part ic ipation
demonstrates commitment, strengthens the
human factor and enables a
proactive approach to r isk management and
sustainabi l i ty at sea; which has proven to be
an advantage in the marit ime market and a
sel l ing point for cl ients .
The IMO, aware of the importance of the
human element, adopted the obl igation to
include the content of the MEAC model
course into the curriculum of naval academies
worldwide, as prescribed in the STCW Code
(Manil la Amendments 2011) .
