This shot is an establishing shot of the setting which music videos include to make the narrative and setting clearer to the audience. This is a typical, colourful iconographic setting which Pop genre artists use within their music videos. Colour is conventionally used within music videos to connote the emotion expected audience to feel.

Party scenes are conventionally used in music videos. Particularly in pop genre. It connotes happiness and fun and appeals to the teenage audience who are typical target audiences for the pop. In TGIF the lyrics connote partying as does lyrics of ‘Tik Tok’ by Kesha, both portray a group of young people dancing with hands in the air having a good time which fits in with the ‘Effects model theory’ as it could make people believe that this is a way to have fun.

In conventional pop genre music videos, themes usually include love and happiness and fun. Love themes music videos include a love interest within the narrative. In TGIF, the love interest is shown within a two shot and showing her star motif of costumes within it.

Laura Mulvey’s male gaze theory can be applied to most music videos as it appeals to males as an audience. Although it could be argued as degrading women, it is conventional within the pop genre. Conventionally, as close up of the female artist’s body part Is shown, In TGIF an image of Katy Perry’s legs are shown which connotes a sexual theme to her music video and narrative as she is transformed from ‘beast to beauty’.

Product placement is quite often used in all music videos to promote other products and to advertise them. In TGIF, the product placement is of a game ‘Just Dance’ which fits in well with the narrative as the music video is about dancing and fun. The setting of the music video is also shown in this shot, showing that the product is well part of the narrative, this again can relate to ‘Effects model theory’ as the audience may be ‘brainwashed’ into buying products used by their favourite artists.
