A method for the enzymatic transesterification useful for modification of a lipid which com- prises continuously or repeatedly contacting an enzyme or an enzyme preparation having trans- esterification activities with a fresh supply of a dried fatty ester substrate such as fats and oils of glycerides. The enzyme or the enzyme prepara- tion has transesterification activities (Kr value) of 0.01 or more as well as lipolytic activities. The enzyme preparation is prepared by dispersing, adsorbing or bonding an enzyme having lipolytic activities in or to a carrier and drying the resul- ting mixture at an adequately slow initial drying rate to activate or increase transesterification ac- tivities of the enzyme.

A process and a microorganism for synthesizing cellulase enzymes and soluble proteins are described. The microorganism is a mutant strain of an Ascomycete fungus capable of the syn- thesizing cellulases and soluble proteins in the presence of a growth medium containing cel- lulose, cellulose enzymic hydrolysate sugars or lactose. The mutant strain is identified as T. reesei MCG80.

A method of killing and inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in industrial process streams comprises the addition of an enzymatically cata- lyzed biocide system utilizing a microbial or plant dehydrogenase enzyme such as peroxidase or laccase in the presence of an oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide or oxygen to oxidize phenolic compounds found in or added to the process streams to produce oxidation products that are toxic to microorganisms.

An in vitro enzymatic process for preparing O- beta-D-glucuronides which comprises reacting a solution of D-glucuronic acid with a solution of a compound which has a primary alcohol, and a solution of beta-glucuronidase for a time suffic- ient to form the desired glucuronide. The glucuronides can be used for the following pur- poses: antiperspirants, cardiotonic agents, gastric acid inhibitors, vitamin D derivatives, treatment of psoriasis, and as antitumor agents.
