* shows me there is a kid- Son* a small jungle, becasue it is small- Akash* a big forest because there is a lot of trees- Hieu* trees look like they are falling down because one is bigger- Paul*big trees because you can not see the tree tops- Omar* there is small path because the boys is walking on a very small road- Ella* the forest is big and the person is small because the person is inside- Ben* looks like a big jungle because I can not see it all- Son* the boy is walking forward because he is getting smaller- Paul* The boy is small and the trees

COLOUR as a device.• Show the bear is fearless by using a lot of red- Akash• Being strong- Elliott• The bear is being angry- red- Sean/ Son• Looks like the bear is in a dust storm because of the colour of the

background- Kael• He looks upset because the red is all around him –Ella• Looks like the bear has just had a kill because the red looks like

blood- Omar• It makes me think the bear is in danger because red is a danger

• Make me feel happy because there are lost of bright colours- Paul

Interesting to note both use red but our thoughts and reactions about these 2 pictures a very different!

Body language and gestures can show us how a character is feeling, what their personality is like or can tell us how to react. It can express a feeling, mood or behaviour.

Are YOU a great communicator? Are YOU a great illustrator?

An illustrator is a great COMMUNICATOR if they can use colour, position, size, gesture, background and facial expressions in their illustrations to COMMUNICATE emotions and messages about characters to the reader.

• The choice of medium by the illustrator can provide the readers with clues to the message or purpose of the text: i.e. photos likely to be non-fiction

• Illustrators uses visual devices to influence the readers: artistic style, colour, composition, medium, size and detail
