From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. “Go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who had nothing prepared…” (Nehemiah 8:10). Ezra’s instructions to the people show us that God does not forbid us from enjoying the good things in life, he wants us to be happy! However, He expects us to generously share our blessings with those who are in need, without expecting anything in return.

Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10: Ezra reads the law to the people who are very much in need of hearing it. Their heartrending response indicates that they need both the encouraging words of the law’s promise as well as, perhaps, the discipline that the law required of them. The combination of sorrow for sin and the joy of being forgiven always produces healing tears.

1 Corinthians 12:12-30: The unity among the members of Christ ’s body is an organic unity. There can be no choosing among members with regard to their relationship with other members. Can the eye say to the hand, “I don’t need you?” Of course not. Can we fool ourselves into thinking we are not in need of one another? Of course not.

Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21: Theophilus may be a specific historical person, or it may represent any and all who are “lovers of God,” for that is how the name translates. Luke aims to show that the word of God Jesus speaks is for all people the world over, not only the chosen people (Israel). The theme of fulfillment is clearly seen in Jesus’ interpretation of the scripture passage from Isaiah. He applies the personal pronouns to himself and announces that he himself is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecies.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

PRAYER OF BELIEF – John Shea

We believe that where people are gathered together in love, God is present and good things happen and life is full.

We believe that we are immersed in mystery, that our lives are more than they seem,

that we belong to each other, and to a universe of great creative energies

whose source and destiny is God.

We believe that God is after us, that God is calling to us from the depth of human life.

We believe that God has risked Self and became man in Jesus. In and with Jesus we believe that each of us is situated in the love of God and the patterns of our life will be the pattern of Jesus - through death to

Resurrection.

We believe that the Spirit of Peace is present with us, the Church, as we gather to celebrate our common existence, the resurrection of Jesus, and the fidelity of God.

And most deeply we believe that in our struggle to love, we incarnate God in the world.

And so aware of mystery and wonder, caught in friendship and laughter, we become speechless before the joy in our hearts and celebrate the

sacredness of life in the Eucharist. Amen.

For more information, call Martie at 286-0218. Those who knit, crochet or quilt welcome to join this project. More later, as this looks like an ongoing need, along with lap robes and blankets for veterans and the poor in nursing homes.

Chuck Bauer will provide some oven baked chicken and several decks of cards. Ruby will provide the board games and dominoes. Bring your full money/change purse so Pat can lighten it for you. DEAR FRIENDS OF QAC: I realize that QAC is not an inner city parish, however, I am making a request on behalf of the women in the inner city of Dayton. I am a member of a Prostitution Intervention Committee. Oasis House, known for their advocacy for women in crisis, is opening a Drop In Center at their location on Findlay Street. They are welcoming women who are in crisis. These women can come and take a shower, get a new pair of sweats and a welcome bag containing soap, small cosmetics, tooth paste, tooth brush. They are offered hot coffee, hot tea, and a cup of hot soup. At this point, they need dry soup in a cup to which they can add hot water, individual tea bags, hot chocolate packets and coffee. Oasis House staff also asks for prayers. If you can assist with any of these, I will collect them after Mass and bring them to Oasis House. Thanks a million...Sister Rose Martin, SC.

A MEDITATION: "Whoever expresses profound gratitude to God, even for the least benefits received, praises God wondrously, for God, who has granted these benefits, is supremely great. Hence, we ought not to look upon what the Most High has freely and lovingly granted us as something trifling or of little worth. God neither seeks nor asks anything more of us than that we willingly love God, avoid all that offends God, and always and everywhere give God thanks. God highly values those who out of true humility belittles and forgets themselves, judges themselves unworthy of all gifts and benefits, does not flaunt them when received, and does not seek the praise of others. Blessed are they who humbly accept afflictions from the hand of God as did Job and offers and abandons themselves totally to the divine will. Blessed are they who always seeks to follow that will and chooses whatever is more pleasing to God; those who accepts the worst as the best rejoice when they meets with insult and endure temporal afflictions, knowing they are for the soul's benefit." ~ Thomas à Kempis

JANUARY IS ‘POVERTY AWARENESS MONTH’: Prayer for the Hungry (A Mealtime Prayer)

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts: The gift of food, for us and for others;

Of generosity, that when we have plenty None should go hungry the whole world over;

The gift of hearts that grow in humility and compassion For each of your children who suffers misfortune;

The gift of your love that extends our reach, And would not deny your gifts to another.

Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
