Holy Father’s Prayer Intention for
January 2016
Universal Intention: That sincere dialogue
among men and women of different faiths
may produce the fruits of peace and justice.
Intention for Evangelization: That by
means of dialogue and fraternal charity, and
with the grace of the Holy Spirit, Christians may overcome
divisions.
Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 23 & 24, 2016
Nehemiah 8:2-4a. 5-6, 8-10 They read from the book of the Law and
understood what was read.
Psalm 19 “Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-30 or 12:12-14-27 We are Christ’s body.
Luke 1:1-4; 8:14-21 Today the Scripture passage is fulfilled.
Our first reading sets the stage for today’s Gospel. Both stories tell of the proclamation of
God’s word in the midst of the assembly, and of how that word is being fulfilled. Saint Paul
today proclaims that we are members of Christ’s body. As members of that body, we are
compelled to continue the mission that Jesus proclaims. Let us listen carefully and learn
what that mission is.
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 30 & 31, 2016
Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19
Psalm 71
1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13 or 13:4-13
Luke 4:21-30

Remember us in your Will!!!
Our Lady of Good Counsel is extremely grateful to
those individuals who have made or have expressed
an intention to make a gift to our future ministries in
their will. Such a gift is among the most far reaching
and valuable contributions a parishioner can make,
directly benefitting the future mission and ministries
of our parish and school. If you are considering leav-
ing your gift as a will or bequest to the parish and
would like additional information, please contact our
office at (808) 455-3012.
Stewardship
Stewardship involves a change of heart, embodied not just
is a single action, nor even a series of actions, but it one’s
entire life. “...none of you can be my disciple if he does not
renounce all his possessions. “
(Luke 14:33)
Jesus has told us to not worry about what we will say be-
cause the Holy Spirit will speak through us. But, Jesus has
said even more: it’s not our job to worry about results. The
results of our efforts are not our responsibility, our kuleana.
Paraphrasing Scripture:
A man scatters seed and sleeps and rises and the see
sprouts and grows and the man doesn’t know how.
The smallest of seeds, the mustard seed shall grow taller
than all the other seeds.
The sower sows the word and it falls on different
ground and grows (or not) depending on what kind of
ground it is.
The rain falls to the ground but does not rise again until
it fulfills God’s purpose for the ground.
The disciples asked who then can be saved and Jesus
replied that with God all things are possible.
Sharing the faith is not about us. It is about God using us.
We don’t need to worry about the process (of sharing) or
about results - that’s God’s job..

evangelization can look like for “typical” Catholics.

Pro-Life Reflection
Jesus becko0ned a child to come to Him, placed it in their
midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you change
and become like little children, you will never enter the
kingdom of heaven.”
~Mt 18:1-3
Reflection. It is an understatement to say that children are
loved by God or important to Him.
They are central and they exemplify certain virtues and atti-
tudes God wants us all to have.
Prayer. Holy Spirit, keep our minds and hearts focused on
children, that we may learn from them.
Intercessory Prayer
For every little child;
That we might accept and preserve each one
As a sign of the infinite love of God for us;
We pray to the Lord.
