3M™ Particulate Filters

Filterscaptureparticlesthroughthemechanismsofimpaction,interceptionanddiffusion.Additionallythesefiltersareenhancedwith electrostatically charged fibers to trap particulates within the filtermedia.

Asparticulatefiltersloadupwiththecontaminant,theytypicallybecomemoreefficient,however,theyalsobecomehardertobreathe through.

NIOSH has nine classifications for particulate filters based on minimumfiltrationefficiencyandthetypeofaerosol(non-oilorcontains oil). The chart below shows the nine classifications.

How do 3M™ Gas & Vapor Cartridges work?

3M™ Gas & Vapor Cartridges

Thesecartridgesutilizesorbentmaterialtoabsorbthegasorvapormolecules.Typicallythesorbentisactivatedcarbon.Differentchemicaltreatmentsmayalsobeaddedtothesurfaceoftheactivated carbon to adsorb different types of gases or vapors. When thecartridgesreachtheircapacity,thegasesorvaporsstarttocomethrough the cartridge to the user. This is called “breakthrough.”

NIOSHusesaclassificationsystemtoidentifythedifferenttypesofcontaminantsthesetreatedcarbongrainswillcapture.
