3D LASER SCANNING SCOPE OF THE PROJECT: 2D SURVEY AND 3D MODELLING OF THE
ROOF FRAMING
The roof framing is one of the main pieces of the roof, practically representing its resistance structure.
The 3D surveys or models of the roof framing are necessary for different purposes: obtaining construction/ demolition permits, restoration or preservation of existing constructions .
A detailed examination of its condition was required for the project of restoration and preservation of the fortified church of the commune of Merghindeal, built in the 8th century. In such context, an accurate copy of the framework was required.
As measurement method to fulfill this purpose, the 3D laser scan has been selected due to the many benefits :
• Low time of data acquisition comparatively to the classical methods;• Non –invasive method to collect data;• Low price of works;• Authentic, full and accurate 3D copy of reality which can not be performed with any other measurement mean or method;• 2D and 3D documentation within the easy reach of engineers, structure designers and architects;• Conversion in 2D plans and 3D models compatible with all CAD software;• Detailed mapping of degradations – it allows the design of the restoration and preservation works and time monitoring of the results of theintervention;• Structure details– complex documentation based on the accuracy and large volume of purchased data;• Reconstruction of complex architectural elements• Conversion of laser scanning into digital orthophoto;• Ideal alternative to the classical meausurements regarding restoration and preservation of monuments.
