Overview of Proposal 1

• Purpose Statement:To provide a 3-D visual model of each major phase of construction using a stadium complex design as an innovative application

• Target Industry Fields:Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Construction

• Need and Benefits:• Expose the defects of a project• Saves time if mistakes are identified• Guarantees satisfaction between contractor and client for the

final phase of the project• Showcase different sections of construction• Demonstrates the unique utilizations of various areas

Changes in the Proposal

• Stadium Complex Terrain

• First design: A stadium in which the different phases of design would represent 1.25 inches in the z-axis.

• Second design: A 49 inched squared terrain that will contain a stadium, solar panel roofed parking lot, condo, and a fence enclosing the perimeter. Each complex within the terrain will have a different height in the z-axis.

Resources• San Diego City College’s MESA Program• Rafael Alvarez

• Piazza Platform• Mentor 1: Ross Prout• Mentor 2: Jonny Orozco

• San Diego Central Library’s Innovation Lab• Fab Lab• Tinker Cad

Stadium Complex• First attempt at designing the stadium• Needed a new approach

Page 8: 3-D Printing Presentation

Stadium Complex• Forming curve edges (1nd obstacle)• Forming objects that fit exact

Page 9: 3-D Printing Presentation

Stadium Complex• Layers of blocks to enclosed a

rectangular flat surface• Each block: ¼ x ¼ x (n + ¼) inches

Page 10: 3-D Printing Presentation

Stadium Complex• Corners yielded holes (2nd obstacle)• A support raft was used while printing

Page 11: 3-D Printing Presentation

The Fence• Each Block: ¼ x ¼ x ½ inches• Arc: 1 x ¼ x ¼ inches• Opening: 1 inches

Page 12: 3-D Printing Presentation

The Fence• Fitting the entire fence in the grid (obstacle)• Grid: 11.22 x 6.02 inches

Page 13: 3-D Printing Presentation

Condominiums• Dimensions:• Left Condo: 1 x 1 x 2 inches• Right Condo: 1 x 1 x 7/4 inches

Page 14: 3-D Printing Presentation

Solar Panel Parking Lot• Unable to print due to space• Too thin to scrape off

Page 15: 3-D Printing Presentation

Solar Panel Parking Lot• Print as separate pieces • Panels: 1 x 1 x 0.48 inch• Rectangular pillars: ½ x ½ x 1 inch

Learning Outcomes(What did we learned from this experience?)

• Have a better understanding of how 3-D printing works

• Obtained more experience utilizing Tinker Cad• Improved all member’s team work skills• Acquired an opportunity to tour Digital Force

Technologies• Be more informed about the different industries

that benefit from 3-D printing• Know more about the Piazza platform and its

opportunities for networking• Become more aware of the various applications

of 3-D printing
