Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Christ the Lord is risen as

he promised! Alleluia!

The Church celebrates Divine

Mercy Sunday today. Pope St.

John Paul II ushered in this ob-

servance in the Liturgical Year in

part because of the abundant

mercy the Risen Jesus showed

to his Apostles as he appeared

to them. This devotion, first re-

vealed to a Polish sister, St.

Faustina Kowalska, in the early

20

th

century, is continuing to

have a huge impact throughout

the Body of Christ. I heartily en-

courage you to make time for

praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy as a family. One great resource

that I like to recommend is thedivinemercy.org. Jesus, we trust in you!

As a reminder, I am livestreaming Sunday Mass at approximately 9:00

AM every Sunday morning, and I invite you to keep following our web-

site and parish Facebook page through the course of this suspension.

I’m also available for the Sacrament of Confession from 12:30-1 PM

weekdays, 9:30-10:30 AM and 5-6 PM on Saturdays, and 8-9 AM Sun-

days.

God Bless You!

Father James Gross

St. Mary’s Parish Family sends condolences and prayers to

Jeanette Stoffel and family on the recent death of her son, John

Stoffel. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

Also remember the family and friends of Bruce A Karlstad the son

inlaw of Helen Daucsavage, and other family members from St.

Mary’s. May he be blessed with the Lord.

Note: Father Gross will be offering the listed Mass intentions when

he celebrates his daily private Mass. Please add them to your pray-

er intentions when you are praying the Mass from your TV and or in-

clude them in your private prayer time.

NOTE: “Every year the collection on Good Friday supports the holy

sites and Christian communities of the Holy Land. In light of the

COVID-19 outbreak, Pope Francis authorized moving the Collection

for the Holy Land to Sunday, September 13, the Sunday nearest the

Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. And so, you will be invited to

support the Holy Land collection in the fall. Please keep the Chris-

tians of the Holy Land in your prayers.”

Smiler: A guy named Joe found himself in dire trouble. His business

had gone bust, and he was in serious financial trouble. He was so des-

perate that he decided to ask God for help. He began to pray, “God,

please help me. I’ve lost my business, and if I don’t get some money,

I’m going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the lotto.” Lotto

night came, but somebody else won it.

Joe again prayed, “God, please let me win the lotto! I’ve lost my busi-

ness and house, and I’m going to lose my car as well.” Lotto night

came, but Joe still had no luck.

Once again, he prayed, “My God, why have you forsaken me? I’ve lost

my business, house, and car. My wife and children are starving. I don’t

often ask you for help, and I’ve always been a good servant to you.

Please just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in

order.” Suddenly, there was a blinding flash of light as the heavens

opened. Joe was confronted by the voice of God himself. “Joe, meet me

halfway on this. Buy a ticket!”

“Prayer is not asking. Prayer is put-

ting oneself in the hands of God, at

his disposition and listening to his

voice in the depths of our hearts.”

St. Mother Teresa

Give Yourself Completely: The early days of the first Christian com-

munity were not easy by any measurement. Jesus had been executed,

and his disciples had to be discreet so as not to meet a similar fate. Je-

sus was now risen, but the truth of his resurrection was not accepted by

all. However, the depiction of that early community in Acts 2:4247

would lead someone to believe it was the opposite situation. We are

told of community life where people lean on each other and share great

joy. They ate and prayed together, and many wonders and signs were

occurring to lift the community and bear witness to the power of Jesus

Christ. They were disciples living out their faith, and it was their strong

sense of stewardship that made all this possible in the face of threaten-

ing Roman and Jewish powers.

Today, we find the Church in a new turmoil. Increasing secularism,

abuse scandals, and a lack of true fidelity place us once again in a time

that is not easy. A friend of mine likes to say that any challenge of sin

we encounter in the Church has its origin in a lack or misunderstanding

of the stewardship way of life. We create our burdens by not using our

gifts wisely and by turning inward selfishly.

Could we use the story in Acts of the early Church to help us today? If

we begin with the decision to give of ourselves completely to God and

His people, will we become agents of change? There is only one way to

find out. Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Thank you to all of St. Mary’s Parish family that have continued

to provide support and prayers to St. Mary’s Church. May God

bless you for your generosity. Your kindness is much appreciat-

ed as we continue with the challenge we are facing as a church,

our families and our nation. Be strong and safe.

will see these flowers and all when we once again can come together in

joy and thankfulness of celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

God was talking to one of his

angels and said, “Do you

know what I have just done?

I’ve just created a 24hour pe-

riod of alternating light and

darkness on Earth. Isn’t that

great?”

The angel said, “Yes, but what

will you do now?”

God said, “I think I’ll call it a

day.”
