Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members

Thank you to those who were able to attend our

Remembrance Day commemoration on Monday, our

school councillors conducted the service clearly and

respectfully.

Thank you also to those who were able to attend our final

classroom assembly. Our year 3/4 class demonstrated that

even in another language, that wonderfully entertaining

song ‘Baby Shark’ is extremely recognisable!

Many awards were presented at the assembly, including

Maths Competition certificates (a number of which were

for Proficiency), as well as our Honour Certificates and

‘Star’ awards. These awards continue to demonstrate the

high level of achievement we expect of our students, and

in fact the high levels possible when students apply

themselves at school.

This was also demonstrated by one of our on-site SIDE

students who completed and passed his year 11 studies.

Congratulations to Ryan White for achieving this

milestone, not an easy task when faced with studying

independently, but he managed, with assistance from Mrs

Kathy Loader, and he achieved an important goal.

SDERA:

On Monday evening Mrs Rose Power came to school to

present a Keys for Life session for our secondary students

who are looking to attain their drivers licence, and their

parents, followed by a Drug Education session open to

parents and community members.

Thank you to those who attended these sessions and to

Rose for coming to Southern Cross to present them to us.

SECONDARY EXAMS:

It has been very pleasing to see the effort and focus from our Year 7 - 10 classes, despite their nerves, this

week. Thank you to our secondary staff for the extra work and time spent on not only making the exams,

but preparing our students. Now the marking begins!

LITTLE LEARNERS:

The 0 – 4 ‘Little Learners’ program has had another extremely successful year; as a new staff member, it

has been wonderful to see children, their parents, grandparents and carers enjoying the variety of

activities provided in our wonderful early childhood area. Every week we enjoy fun filled mornings of

crawling through tunnels, making new friends, playing with play dough, Duplo, bubbles and cars and

don’t forget creating masterpieces of painting and drawings.

Thank you to Janine Dal Busco and Ann Borona, for their efforts, hours of set up and work put in to make

the program enjoyable and successful.

We look forward to welcoming both new and ‘old’ faces again next year with an even more exciting

program, details of which will be provided in the new year. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Regards,

Karen Tabner

Work Experience Our year 10 students will be completing work experience next week in a variety of local businesses. On behalf of the school I’d like to thank the members of the Southern Cross community who have agreed to take on Work Experience placements. We understand that it is a substantial commitment to take on a work experience student and commend the business owners who understand the benefits to the community in upskilling and exposing the future generation to a variety of employment options. A huge thank you must also go to Michelle Calderbank for organising this terrific opportunity for our students. Student Behaviour It is terrific to see student’s demonstrating our school’s Positive Behaviour Support values of “Safety, Take Responsibility, Achieve, Respect, Support” or STARS as they are more commonly known. This term, staff and students are focussing on the ‘Safety’ value. As a school, we value and recognise positive student behaviour and appreciate your support in helping our students learn how to behave appropriately within society. Regards,

Michael Everett
