Small Schools Soccer

Last Thursday our Small Schools Soccer

team played Crystal Creek PS on our

home ground. It was an excellent

opportunity to play in front of parents,

community and peers. With a great

start to the game we managed to score

many goals and came away with a 10 –

2 victory. All of the players combined

as a team and worked well in all parts

of the field. A big thank you to parents

and community members who came

along to cheer us on. Also

congratulations and thank you to our referees from Alstonville High who conducted themselves

in a responsible and respectful manner. It was fantastic to see a former student, Nathan Leslie,

running the line!

This brings us to the next round in the Small Schools competition. We will play Wooli PS next

Wednesday, 29 August at Geoff Watt Oval in Alstonville. The game will kick off at 12.00pm. This

is a very significant game as the winner progresses to the finals in Sydney on the 27 September.

So if you could spare an hour next Wednesday it would be great to see many supporters

cheering us on. You will even get to see our brand new shirts for the first time!

Congratulations to us, the Rous Public School community, on another wonderfully successful Bonfire. Our success comes in a variety of ways.

From a fundraising point of view, a preliminary estimate is a profit of over $12.000. This is a remarkable achievement.

Yet I believe, benefits of the Bonfire go way beyond this great financial success. We have provided the wider community with an opportunity to come together for a unique evening of entertainment and fun. In doing so, we have consolidated our reputation as a caring and supportive, well-resourced public school. Further, we have ensured the continued success of the Rous Public School Bonfire and Monster Fireworks for future years.

Last, but by no means least, everyone who has helped out has done themselves a great favour. You don’t have to look far to find research outlining the health benefits associated with being part of, and contributing to a supportive community.

https://www.sbs.com.au/radio/audiotrack/benefits-volunteering

The list of thank yous and acknowledgements is extensive and varied. It ranges from community groups who lit and supervised the bonfire, staffed the door and sold chips, to Storm Troopers and alpacas who posed for photographs to gain donations. It includes butchers and bakers and raw cake makers as well as a host of local businesses who donated generously to a range of stalls. One of our school bus drivers is so impressed with our Bonfire night that he volunteers four hours of his time to driving his tractor for the tractor ride (and talks about how much he enjoys it!). And I can’t speak highly enough of the Rous teachers and staff, their dedication is exceptional.

Regardless of whether you co-ordinated a stall, approached local businesses for donations, sorted the roster, fronted up and did your shift, set up beforehand, packed up afterwards, acted as trouble-shooter or money collector on the night, looked after the kids so your partner could do a double shift, or any of the multitude of other jobs I may have omitted to mention, know that you have contributed to our success.

Members of the P&C have already started evaluating the whole bonfire process to find ways to improve. However, we inevitably come back to recognising how lucky we are to have inherited such a great institution, and to be part of such a supportive community.

Well done all involved.

Café de Rous

Dear Rous Community,

Once again, we would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that contributed to Café de

Rous this year. We had another incredibly successful night thanks to such a generous

community of bakers and volunteers!!

Thank you to the parents who ensured the busy line ran smoothly all evening.

Thank you to the student volunteers who gave up 4 hours of their time and assisted with

pricing, slicing, plating and serving.

We were so fortunate to have had the support of Nat’s Coffee this year. Nat generously

donated all the necessary equipment, including many kilos of coffee beans and hot chocolate

for us to serve on the chilly night that it was… The wonderful parent baristas were superstars!!

Thank you to Jo Bate who organised the ingredient cards and regular updates in the newsletter

each week – the Café not only looked pretty but was easy to run because of the hard work of

parent bakers and their well labelled goods.

Thanks again, we look forward to doing it all again next year!!!
