Attend Our fundraisers generate a large portion of our general budget and attending events are a great way to support Recovery Resource Council. In the spring, we host our Annual Jim Bradshaw Memorial Stars in Recovery Luncheon. The luncheon has a long tradition of bringing well known and loved celebrities to Fort Worth for an intimate conversation about their lives, struggles and triumphs. Additionally, in the fall, we host our Annual Golf Classic. The funds raised from our Golf Classic directly benefit the many prevention programs of Recovery Resource Council.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 27TH ANNUAL STARS IN RECOVERY LUNCHEON BRINGS ACADEMY AWARD WINNING ACTRESS TO FORT WORTH ON MAY 19, 2015. The Stars in Recovery Luncheon, now celebrating its 27th year, will feature Marlee Matlin, author and Oscar-winning actress. The luncheon begins at noon on May 19, 2015 at the Omni Hotel Fort Worth and is one of the highest attended luncheons in Fort Worth. The Stars in Recovery Luncheon has a long tradition of bringing well known and beloved celebrities to Fort Worth for an intimate conversation about their lives, struggles and

triumphs. Recovery Resource Council is very pleased to add Mrs. Matlin to this roster of inspirational speakers.

At 18 months old, Matlin lost her hearing after a bout with a virus. She overcame many obstacles and landed a role at age 19 in Children of a Lesser God, which earned her a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress. While filming this movie, Matlin fell in love with her co-star, William Hurt, and they began a tumultuous two year relationship. During this relationship, she became addicted to marijuana and cocaine and the relationship turned abusive. “I was so wrapped up in his world and my drugs. The drugs took over my life, took over my brain. I was 19 and I was alone in New York City. I had no friends there except my drug dealer,” Matlin explained in a 2009 interview. With treatment from Betty Ford Center, Matlin overcame her addiction. She has gone on to perform in numerous film and television movies. She has most recently had roles on The L Word, Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars. Her perseverance has made her an inspiration to many. Recovery Resource Council is very proud to have Matlin share her story at this year’s luncheon. Recovery Resource Council encourages those in the recovery community, women’s social groups and those that work with the hearing impaired to attend this year’s luncheon. It is

important to share stories of overcoming addiction so that those struggling may know that help is available. Additionally, due to support and advocacy for domestic abuse, we are proud to announce that WFAA sportscaster Dale Hansen will be the emcee for this event. As an esteemed figure in local television, Recovery Resource Council believes that his connection to this subject matter would help us start a conversation that needs to be had. More information about the 27th Annual Stars in Recovery Luncheon, featuring Marlee Matlin, can be found by calling Dimanche Brewer at Recovery Resource Council at 817-332-

6329, or by visiting recoverycouncil.org/events.
