BDA SIXTH FORM

THE FINAL HURDLE: END OF PROJECT PRESENTATIONS:

This Thursday the Year 12 Extended ProjectQualification (EPQ) Class began the finalpart of the course: presenting theirdissertations to their peers and teachers.

At the end of the course successful studentswill receive an additional AS level andmany are on course to attain an A or A*grade.

Today we heard from Chloe on the post-war political consensus and how it wasdismantled by Mrs Thatcher: from Adam on

the pros and cons of the Black Market forthe French economy; from Fayez onwhether GM fish is the answer to our over-fishing crisis and from Aiah on whether itreally is scientifically possible to manipulatetime.

The standard of these presentations wasuniformly excellent and the students shouldbe proud of all that they have achievedover a year of research into their chosentopics.

Hi everyone,

A massive congratulations to the students inyear 7, 8 and 9 who have achieved theirtarget of reading 6 or more books thisacademic year, and passing an AR quiz onthem.

To those of you who have a few morebooks to go, there is still time for you tocomplete this target! Just make sure youare reading during your library lessons andat home.

We would like to extend a very warmwelcome to Madam Codling, who is joiningthe library team as an assistant librarian. Ms.Codling will be running craft club startingfrom Wednesday 28th June.

This week in craft club we made someflavoured and/or tinted lip balms. It was somuch fun and students came up with somefantastic colour and flavour combinations!

Please ensure you return all overdue booksto the 6th form library or main library so thatother students may enjoy them.

The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas

A powerful, gut-wrenching novel about theappalling realities of prejudice, racism andpolice brutality in 21st century America.

Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: thedisadvantaged neighbourhood where shelives and the posh high school she goes toin the suburbs.

The uneasy balance between them isshattered when Starr is the sole witness tothe fatal shooting of her unarmed friend,Khalil, by a police officer.

The scenarios that revolve around theshooting follow a heartbreakingly familiar

pattern - an unarmed African-Americanteen, the media's push to blame the victim,a lax investigation, and a lack of charges orconvictions.

Inspired by the Black Lives Mattermovement, this is a powerful and grippingYA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.

SPORTS

On Saturday last week, BDA table tennisplayers participated in the Jack PetcheyLondon Schools individual finals with thefollowing results:

Cacherel Mirjah-Mercer lost in the quarterfinals to Branislav Zivkovic by 2-3. Cacherelwas 2 nil up but unfortunately lostconcentration, therefore losing out narrowlyagainst his opposition.

Audrey Herman lost in the semi-finals 0-3.Audrey played really well but could not getthrough her opposition. However, this was agood performance from Audrey who camein at 4th overall.

Monique Gundrum came 3rd, losing 0-3

against her opponent. Moniqueperformance was brilliant.

Overall, it was a very decent contributionfrom our BDA stars and we are very happywith their individual performances.

Lastly, in the London Youth Games, theHammersmith and Fulham team camerunners up in the cadet girls, and AimeyGerald from BDA was part of the team.

Aimey played really well competing for the

silver medal she obtained. The picturebelow shows; Aimey Gerald (far left) andDemi Reid from BDA, who served as aHammersmith and Fulham coach on thisoccasion.
