Parent Meeting Last Week

Thank you very much to the fifty parents/caregivers

and fifteen students who came to the meeting in our

school hall for a discussion about National Standards

expectations with Senior Leaders last Wednesday night.

Excellent conversations took place, led by team leaders

and it was interesting to hear questions and concerns

put forward by parents/caregivers. Should further or

different information emerge, we will hold another

meeting later in the year. Please keep an eye on our

fortnightly newsletters as these will contain information

pertaining to any meetings to be held at school.

Education in the News

It has been ‘interesting’ to read commentary over re-

cent days regarding Treasury’s view of class sizes and

quality of teachers. We do our very best to maintain

low class sizes wherever possible. Our teachers do

work very hard to make a difference for our students

and their learning on a daily basis. It was great to re-

cently receive affirmation of our programmes from

grandparents visiting Edendale from overseas.

New Parents/Caregivers Morning Tea

Families new to the school this term are welcome to

attend a morning tea in the staffroom on Friday 23

March at 10:15am. Senior leaders and PTA members

will be present to talk with you and to answer any

questions you may have about life at Edendale.

Donations and Activity Fees

Thank you to those families who have paid a donation

and activity fee so far this year. We very much appreci-

ate your support for student learning at Edendale.

Don’t forget - if you pay the donation and activity fee in

a lump sum by 5 April, there will be a $40 discount!

Volunteering at Edendale

We regret that we are unable to cater for pre-schoolers

for parents wishing to volunteer at Edendale. Please

make alternative arrangements for your little ones.

Please remember that there is an office register that all

volunteers must sign in and out of when volunteering

at school or for a school/class/team event. Thank you.

Scooters/Wheelie Shoes

Please remember that we allow school-aged students to

ride scooters to school under parent supervision only

on the proviso that parents take scooters home as we

are unable to accommodate them safely during the

school day. Please ensure that your child does not ride

the scooter once inside the school grounds. Please

note that ‘wheelies’ are not permitted as footwear at

school at all. Thank you for your co-operation.

Review of School Procedures

A number of school procedures pertaining to our school

community been revised recently and will be uploaded

to our website by the end of next week. These include:

Attendance and Truancy, Police Vetting, Volunteers,

Duty of Care, Student Management

Please note that our Prospectus has also been updated

and will be uploaded to the website shortly.

S P O R T S N E W S Soccer Coaching

Soccer coaching is on Tuesdays 3:15-4:15pm on the bottom field. The cost is $8 and should be paid

to Mr Wilson in Room 24 on Tues-day mornings. Children must be collected afterwards by 4:20pm.

Garden to Table Autumn is upon us and with it a bumper harvest from Eden-dale’s orchard and vegetable beds. With the bounty, Year 5 and 6 classes have cooked apple and passion fruit crumbles, rustled up a roast pumpkin and spinach salad, and baked batches of banana and passion fruit muffins. Yum!

Out in the garden the students have continued earning points towards their tool license and made ‘compost lasagne’ (to feed the garden not the children!) Wonder why we’re not picking all our pumpkins? We’re waiting for the vines to die off and stems to dry out, so that they will store well over winter.

Many thanks to recent sponsors Marketplace Media for name tags and McGregor’s for tools and seeds for autumn sowing. Thanks once again to our hardworking volunteers. If you’d like to join in the fun too, see below.

Cycling to school

Any child who cycles to school MUST have a bike permission slip. This is available from Mr Wilson in Room 24.

Everyone is allowed to cycle to school, but only Year 5/6 students are allowed to cycle unsuper-vised.

All bikes must have a lock.

You may not ride your bicycle through school grounds and you must walk your bicycle across the road.

Newsletter Delivery

Our newsletters are sent home

fortnightly. As of Wednesday

21 March, newsletters will only

be emailed to you. Families

who do not have a home email

address will continue to re-

ceive a paper copy. If you do

have a home email address

and do not receive an emailed

copy on 21 March, please con-

tact the school office with your

child’s name, room number

and your email address.

Education of our future drivers is imperative and you can never start too early to teach children about

the dangers of the road. Children of all ages are very vulnerable on roads, just because they are still

learning and are known to behave unpredictably and are easily distracted. Whilst children face dan-

gers on a daily basis on their journey to and from school, there is currently very little to protect them

if they walk or bike. A maximum speed limit of 40km/h is proven to be the highest safe speed limit

outside a school, yet at the moment there is no National School Speed Limit. Some schools are on

100km/h roads whilst a small number are fortunate to have 20km/h outside their schools. There is no

consistency of speed limits, so I am campaigning to have a National School Speed Limit of 40km/h or

less. Road Safety week is from 7-13 May and I am hoping that all schools will come together to show

the Government that speeds above 40km/h are too high outside schools. For more information, con-

tact Lucinda Rees at [email protected], visit www.roadsafetyweek.org.
