Spotlight of the Month!

Taco Bell located at 129 N. Main St. Taco Bell opened its doors July 20th, 2000 in

Canton. Bud and Janet Jenkins have been Taco Bell Franchisees for 38 years. Before going into the Taco Bell business, Bud and Janet were both special education teachers. Their son, daughter, and son-in-law plan to continue on their parent’s success and keep the franchise going. The 16th store just opened on Willow Knolls in Peoria, Illinois. Fifteen other stores are located throughout Central Illinois, in Peoria, Bloomington, and Springfield.

Bud said the interesting thing about Canton, is how this Taco Bell location has the highest percentage of trials when a new product comes out. He can tell the people of Canton love to try new things and he loves the Canton attitude. Bud loves how families from Canton Heritage, such as the Cook’s have invested so much into the Canton community.

Not only can we thank Taco Bell for great food, Taco Bell has been a great supporter of Canton Main Street. We are very thankful for their support and their investment to Canton’s Downtown and we wish them many more decades of success!!

Unique Dining & Shopping Guides

Canton truly has an array of Unique Dining & Shopping locations through out town. We would like to introduce our new Unique Dining & Shopping Guide for Canton! You can find these guides at our office located at 209 E. Chestnut St. or online at www.cantonillinois.org/uniquediningshopping. Businesses that are marked with a red heart in this guide are businesses that are located in our downtown. If you are a businesses owner and would like copies of these to have at your business to hand out, please call us at (309)647-2677 or email [email protected]. We would love to get these distributed around town!

It is that time of year when we start planning for Canton Main Street’s Annual Glacial Golf fundraiser. This year we will be celebrating 10 years! Time flies when you are having fun. We wanted to make sure everyone has the date on your calendars. This year’s Glacial Golf will take place on Saturday, January 18th. As always registration starts at 11 a.m. with Golf beginning at 12:00 p.m. We are hoping to make our 10th anniversary year the best one yet! Because of the funds raised from this event we have been able to do several downtown projects, enhance our events and create new programs. However, we can’t do this event without volunteers. If you are interested in donating an hour, two or three of your time the day of Glacial Golf we are always looking for Greenskeepers. This year we are also offering Greenskeeper table sponsorships to businesses/organizations AT NO COST. We just need volunteers to act as Greenskeepers and with that the table sponsorship the business can decorate their table with their business information, they can provide giveaways etc. Greenskeepers are what keeps the day running smoothly. They are in charge of knowing the rules, keeping score, and selling 50/50’s and mulligans. Each participating establishment has two shifts 11:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.– 6:45 p.m. If you are an individual or a business that wants to volunteer please contact Missy Towery @309-647-2677 ext 2 to sign up for the 10th Annual Canton Main Street Glacial Golf Fundraiser!! Promotions Committee

Are your munchkins eager to masquerade? That’s a good thing, because we are two weeks away from the annual Munchkin Masquerade! Always the Friday before Halloween, it lands on October 25 and goes from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Kids and whole families dress up and trick-or-treat at businesses all around the square. Again we will be having free horse-and-wagon rides for a jaunt around Jones Park, a Haybale Maze at the north end of the park and a special appearance by the Ghostbusters!

Little dancers from the YWCA Dance Division will be performing in the south end of the park at 5:30, so you won’t want to miss that!

But here’s the coolest thing – we are holding our Second Annual Howl-oween Pet Parade! Last year was a fun little parade, but we are expecting more entries as this part of our event builds. So get creative and dress up your Rover or Felix, or whatever pet you have, and join our parade. Pets and owners gather under the murals on E. Chestnut from 4:30-4:45, receive a yummy pet snack, and the parade steps off at 4:45 for a lap around Jones Park.

This event is given a ton of support by the individuals and businesses that are sponsoring it. They are TBK Bank, the City of Canton, Ray and Emily Cleer, Helping Hands Resale Shoppe, Rhoades Real Estate, and Johnson & Johnson, PC. Thank you so much!! Carol Kohler, Promotions Committee Chair

Spoon River Scenic Drive

We have had wonderful vendors and good food in Jones Park this year! The weather has been cooperating nicely and a lot of fun has been had. One more weekend! Don’t miss it!

Jones Park Gazebo

If you have been in or driven by Jones Park lately, you a probably wondering what is going on with the Gazebo. Our good ole Gazebo is getting a face lift! There will be new iron railing installed over the next few weeks. Some of our Canton Main Street volunteers helped with scraping, sanding and painting the Gazebo columns to get it ready for the new railing! We would like to thank Crawford’s Home Furnishings for donating the paint for this project!
