Adjudicators’ Biographies

Heather Bolin (Texas) – Heather Bolin graduated from Texas Tech University in 2005 with a BME and a minor in Vocal Performance. For 10 years, Mrs. Bolin grew and maintained the Evans Middle School Choir program in Lubbock as the largest and most awarded choir in Region 16. Her choirs worked extensively with Texas Tech University, hosting dozens of choral techniques students, graduate students, and pre-service teachers. In 2015, Mrs. Bolin began a new chapter serving as Satellite Supervisor for Music Education Student Teachers and continuing the Masters of Music Education degree program at Texas Tech University. She has presented sessions at TCDA, SMTE, and continues to be a sought after adjudicator and clinician across the nation. She is a member of TMEA, TMAA, TCDA, SMTE, and NAfME.

Doree Jarboe (Oregon) – Doree Jarboe taught music for 46 years at all levels (elementary, middle school, junior high, high school, and developmental disabilities.) Her vocal music positions were in Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, New Hampshire, and New York. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Oregon and a Master of Arts from West Virginia University. She was director of choral activities at Grant High School in Portland, Oregon for 21 years. Her A Cappella choirs participated in the OSAA State Choir Championships for 19 of those 21 years. She currently is a clinician and festival judge for Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Best known of her choirs was the chamber ensemble The Royal Blues. They represented Oregon at the 50-year D-Day celebrations in Normandy, France. They followed that experience with

singing tours in England, Wales, Scotland, France, Germany, and Austria. In addition, they also had two tours to Canada and one tour to Washington, D.C. The Royal Blues performed with the Oregon Symphony, Ken Kesey, Mason Williams, Doc Severinsen, Tom Grant, Josh Groban, and Pink Martini. In addition, they performed for several OMEA and Northwest ACDA conventions and the National ACDA Convention in Los Angeles. Doree Jarboe was the organizing chair for the 1994 OMEA Oregon All-State Choir held in Eugene and she is past president of the Oregon ACDA. In 1997 she was nominated as a “Community Treasure” by Portland General Electric; in 1998 and 2001 she received the “Excellence in Teaching” award by the Portland Public Schools; in 2000 she was designated Radio K103 Teacher of the Week and was featured in two articles in The Oregonian; in 2003 she was one of five recipients of the Oregon Symphony’s Excellence in Education; in 2005 she was knighted by the Portland Royal Rosarians for her work in music education; in 2006 she was presented the “Excellence in Teaching Award” by the University of Oregon School of Education; in 2008 she was awarded the Patty Vemer Lifetime Achievement in Music Education from the Oregon Symphony; in 2010 she was honored as “The Distinguished Alumna” from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, and in 2014 she conducted the Music in May Festival Chorus at Pacific University.

Rod Zeman (Texas) - Rod Zeman is beginning his twenty-first year of teaching, and his sixth year as the choir director at Austin Middle School in Amarillo, Texas. During the past six years, his program has expanded from 140 to 385 wonderful students. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from West Texas A&M University, where he sang under the direction of Hugh Sanders and Rene Clausen. He studied voice under Elsa Porter. Before moving to Austin Middle School, he taught choir at Bushland High School, Crockett Middle School, Tascosa High School, Bonham Middle School, and Dumas Junior High School. Additionally, Rod was the associate artistic director for the Amarillo Youth Choirs for seven years. He has been a clinician and judge for many UIL choir competitions around the state. Rod is married to his wonderful wife of 32 years, and has a 30 year old son, Zach.

He is a member of TCDA, TMEA, and TMAA.
