Had the honour of meetingAtalji onceBy S. Shivpprasadh

I had the honour of meeting Atal Behari Vajpayee at mynephew’s wedding in Chennai in 2001.

He fully witnessed the traditional Tamil Brahmin weddingand also enjoyed the food served in the traditional way inbanana leaf.

He was then the Prime Minister and attended the wedding ofthe first son of former BJP President Jana Krishnamoorthywho is married to my eldest sister.

The marriage was held in Hotel Roof Top in PoonamalleeHigh Road .

Though it was a small gathering, security was tight and onlyinvitees who carried invitation cards with were allowed at thevenue due to security reasons.

I remember Atalji watched the entire wedding attentivelyand did not least divert his mind away although he wassurrounded by a number of dignitaries.

I had made a patriotic movie in Malayalam tilted ‘The Salute’based on Kargil war. When I was introduced to Atalji after thewedding, I took the opportunity to explain to him about the film.India had attained glory in the Kargil war under the ableleadership of Atalji.

The country has lost a great leader and I pray for his soul torest in peace. S. Shivpprasadh is a leading dramatist and runsthe troupe NXGS. He is a resident of 44/21, Bagirathi AmmalStreet, T. Nagar. His contact number is 73586 96613.

Mind ‘TOE’ in MangeshStreet

Sir, Probably due to lack of space, buses are often parkedvery near one another in T. Nagar terminus. The practice posesa grave danger to commuters boarding the buses as the spaceis narrow and the rear view for the driver is totally blocked.

Recently, a school girl almost got squeezed when the driverstarted the bus without realizing she was boarding.

I appeal to MTC officials to instruct drivers not to park busesin an unsafe manner. K Swaminathan, T. Nagar

Toilets in parks not maintained properlySir, A number of senior citizens visit parks daily for their daily

walk and to exercise. Many of them suffer from diabetes andother illnesses that cause frequent urination. So, it is para-mount to ensure that the toilets in parks are functional andmaintained well for the benefit of visitors.

The Corporation is renovating parks in the neighbourhoodunder the Smart City scheme.

I appeal to them to repair the toilets as most of them areeither closed or poorly maintained. Such is the condition of thetoilets in Natesan Park, T. Nagar. H. Nagesh Bhandarkar,Sri Krishna Apartments, 40, 8th Avenue, Ashok Nagar

MTC responds after report in Mambalam TimesSir, In response to my letter published two weeks back in

Mambalam Times, MTC has replied me regarding the seat allocationfor senior citizens in its buses. It has replied that instructions havebeen issued to drivers and conductors to ensure that senior citizensand disabled passengers are given first preference to occupy thereserved seats.

Conductors have also been instructed to announce the name ofeach bus stop before arrival to aid passengers, especially thevisually impaired to alight at the right stop. V.S. Narayanaswamy,Motilal Street, T. Nagar.
