Poor service in T. Nagar Post OfficeSir, The NSCs I purchased from India Post

5 years back matured on March 8, whichhappened to be International Women’s Day.

When I went to T. Nagar Head Post Office toencash the certificates, the staff there told methat the proceeds can only be credited to mySavings Bank Account with the post office, which I did not have, and had to open only forthis purpose. I duly filled up the necessaryforms for opening the account, but to mydismay the woman staff handling the counterwas not cooperative. There were a few othersstanding in the queue and she went missingfrom her seat for 15 to 20 minutes on somepersonal errand.

When questioned her action and requestedto speed up the work, she replied in a rudemanner.

I had to spend 2 1/2 hours in the post officeto complete the account opening formalitiesand similar was the plight of other customersmany of whom were senior citizens.

I appeal to T. Nagar Post Office to improveits quality of service. H. Nagesh, Shri KrishnaApartments, 40, 8th Avenue, Ashok Nagar

Sir. MC Raja Hostel located at the corner ofAnna Salai, 3rd Cross Street and South Road, West C.I.T. Nagar, Chennai 35 is consideredone of the prestigious Government hostels inChennai.

The once popular hostel houses college stu-dents of the minority community. Today it is ina very pathetic condition. The sewage systemhas totally broken down. Recently excavatorswere deployed to dig a canal. The sewage is letout into the open canal which runs for approxi-mately 500 meters and joins the Cooum riverrunning at the end.

The entire stretch is open. The illegal dwell-ers on the banks of the Cooum also use theopen sewage canal to defecate.

When the Government is keen on promotinga clean and hygienic environment, it is sad tonotice such a deplorable state of maintenanceof a Government Hostel.

The insanitary condition of the ill-maintainedhostel is hazardous for the students stayingthere and also the residents living nearby.

The compound wall on the Anna Salai side ishigh and hence the hostel does not attract theattention of the public. It can be seen only if oneenters the hostel or from our apartment com-plex situated in South Road.

I request the authorities concerned to takeimmediate action to lay the sewage pipelineand bring a solution to this menace. Krishnan,Venkata Viyajam Apartment OwnersWelfare Association, Ph: 98402 65632

Raja Hostel in deplorable condition

Waste management should startin homes

Sir, The city is generating a huge quantity ofwaste daily and waste management has be-come a big challenge for the authorities.

In this regard, the public can help in betterwaste management by doing source segrega-tion of household waste before handing it overto the sanitary workers who come for door-to-door collection. Chennai Corporation has beenconducting awareness drives, but more effortneeds to be put in to make source segregationmandatory. Similar segregation measuresshould be enforced strictly in hotels, hospitalsand other organisations that generate wasteon a daily basis.

Proper waste management will ensure amore healthy environment. V. S. Nara-yanaswamy, Motilal Street, T. Nagar

Appeal for speed breakers atVenkatachalam Street/Giri Street

junctionSir, The right angle junction of

Venkatachalam Street and Giri Street, WestMambalam is hazardous for both motoristsand pedestrians.

The popular Saneeswara Temple is locatedat the junction. Devotees throng the temple onauspicious days.

A number of drivers take turns at high speedat the blind junction oblivious of the devoteesstanding outside the temple. A number of minoraccidents have been reported at the junction, mainly involving devotees visiting the temple.

I appeal to Corporation officials to installspeed breakers at the junction to slow down thevehicles for the safety of the pedestrians. Y.Ganesan, 36, Venkatachalam Street, WestMambalam

Unethical practices by mobile serviceproviders

Sir, Unethical practices are often followed atthe outlets of mobile service providers. Thesecompanies often come up with schemes whichare thrust on the customer without his/herconsent.

On March 3, I paid Rs. 70 for full talk timewith Vodafone center in Nortth Usman Road. When I came home, I was shocked that mybalance was much less as the counter staffhad, without my consent, enabled mobile walletand charges got deducted for the same.

Similarly, a couple of months back at anAirtel shop, my full top-up was compromisedby the staff subscribing to ‘Hello Tunes’ withoutmy consent.

I strongly condemn such unethical practicesand caution readers of Mambalam Times to bewary when they top up their mobile balance. N.Vijayaraghavan 17, 18th Avenue, AshokNagar, Ph: 99626 64766

TASMAC customers dirtyDhandapani Street

Sir, There is a TASMAC shop in DhandapaniStreet, T. Nagar, opposite

Ramaswamy Street. It is patronized by many persons who often

drink just outside the shop. They also dirty the area by urinating at

street corners and throwing empty liquorbottles and paper cups.

It is also a security risk for women living inthe area.

I appeal to health officials to take immediateaction to prevent the misuse of the location bythe shop’s customers. V. S. Narayanaswamy,Motilal Street, T. Nagar
