THE FESTIVAL
“Imagine Telluride. Except in Maine. In the fall. With foliage. And documentaries only.”
—John Anderson, indieWIRE
The Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) is widely considered among the top 12 documentary festivals in the world. The festival is Academy-qualifying and one of only 14 qualifying festivals for the annual Cinema Eye Honors Award for Non-Fiction Filmmaking.
Established in 2005, CIFF is committed to championing work that shows a dedication and commitment to the craft behind nonfiction storytelling. Each year CIFF presents a carefully curated collection of over 70 films from around the globe, and hosts over 50 of the top filmmakers, industry and critics.
Over the past twelve years CIFF has built a unique reputation as a leading platform for the discovery of new voices, and the exploration of innovation in the documentary form. We pride ourselves on constantly developing new way to engage with audiences and transform the impact a regional festival can have.
“CIFF HAS BECOME A CRUCIAL STOP ON
A DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL CIRCUIT THAT HAS HELPED ADVANCE A NEW
DOC ERA.”
—Robert Greene, Hammer to Nail
POINTS NORTH DOCUMENTARY FORUM
The Points North Documentary Forum brings together the international documentary film community to reflect on the business, craft and future of nonfiction storytelling while connecting with peers and industry leaders in an intimate, small town setting. Through masterclasses, workshops, one-on-one mentorship, networking events and two public pitch sessions, Points North helps independent documentary filmmakers advance their projects - and their careers - in concrete, meaningful ways.
The forum has become the platform for innovative programs designed to expose filmmakers working at the nexus of film and journalism. The New York Times Op-Docs held the North American premiere of their live pitch in 2013, and in 2014 AJ+ (Al Jazeera America’s
new channel) held the world premiere of their live Short Form pitch.
Over 50 leading industry attend each year. Past participants include representatives from: CNN, HBO, PBS, BBC, Discovery, Ford Foundation, Participant Media, A&E IndieFilms, Al Jazeera America, Sundance Institute and Tribeca Film Institute.
“IT’S THE QUALITY OF THE FESTIVAL
AND ITS CONTINUED INNOVATION THAT
HAS ELEVATED CIFF INTO AN INDUSTRY
PLAYER.”
–Loren King, The Boston Globe“An ever-more influential player
on the American nonfiction landscape.”
—Steve Dollar, Filmmaker Magazine

Maine’s idyllic natural beauty and globally-connected community has made it a long-time haven for artists to deepen their craft. Camden continues to evolve into a media center as the film industry descends upon Camden, Rockport and Rockland through the Festival each Fall.
Camden’s harbor is known worldwide, and it is consistently listed as one of America’s prettiest towns by publications like Forbes and Frommer’s. The neighboring towns of Rockport and Rockland are well-established art hubs, most famous for the Farnsworth Art Museum and a world class gallery scene.
Outside of the arts, midcoast Maine showcases world-renowned cuisine and hospitality, attracting people from around the world for the James Beard Award-winning farm-to-table dining and Relais & Chateaux-awarded local inns.
“The documentary community has a few yearly popular destinations…but none of these festivals
take place in as picturesque a setting as the Camden International Film Festival… here’s to CIFF changing
the world, with some amazing stories of humanity.”
