October 2016 Issue Dear Lacamas Families, Lacamas is off to a great start! September proved to be the perfect month for connecting with families and establishing our routines and learning. We enjoyed seeing everyone at our Back to School Block Party, Fall Family Learning Night, Book Fair, Grand’s Breakfast and Sport-a-thon! Thank you for your support as we start off our year featuring events that build our Lacamas community. This year we started a new program for our kids called “Top Spot Training Camp”. All classes participated in a series of trainings going over our
behavior expectations, Character Traits, school song and chants, SPECIAL for presenting skills and new school wide charm incentives. We believe that our character counts! Through learning our rules and expectations, we connect our actions to our character. Our chant states: Lacamas Leopards are Respectful, Responsible and Safe. Each month we will highlight a new Character Trait and recognize students who exemplify this quality at our Character Assembly. At Lacamas, we are committed to professional and student learning. Our grade level teams care and support our kids through collaborative practices within their Professional Learning Communities (PLC). These teams work through an inquiry cycle where our students are at the heart. We use data to identify student and professional learning needs that drives our goal setting, planning and steps to monitor and evaluate our learning and growth. This year our Theory of Action is focused on intervention strategies and our professional learning through our collaborative cycle of inquiry. We are confident that through this focused, collaborate work we will continue to positively impact both student and teacher growth. Looking forward to October, we have a few events to highlight including our Human Carwash, PALS Harvest Festival and Conferences! This year our conference week is held October 24 through October 28. This is our opportunity as a parent-teacher team to discuss your child’s learning and goals for growth. Each day during this week students will be released from school at 1:10. Your child’s classroom teacher will send home more information soon regarding your conference time. We are ready and excited to move into our month of October! Thank you again for helping make the start of our year a great one. We’re ready to learn and grow!
Sincerely, Julie MuellerJulie MuellerJulie MuellerJulie Mueller Principal

I wanted to let you know of some resources that are available for our Lacamas students, as well as their families, which include:
Backpack Program: Families in need can sign up (through me) for help with food over the weekends. Participation is completely confidential. Students go home with a backpack full of food each Friday. Backpacks need to be returned the following week empty so they can be filled for the upcoming weekend.
New/used Backpacks and non-perishable food donations are always needed throughout the year and can be dropped off to the main office.
Emergency Meal Account: Lacamas has an emergency meal account set up for students that are without lunch money. Anyone can donate to this account at any time by requesting their contribution to be put towards the “MICKEY MOUSE” meal account.
Finally, I want to let you know that I will be giving a presentation at the PALS meeting on Tuesday October 11th at 6pm. I’ll be talking about family resources and some of the ways we support our students here at school. If you have a concern that you’d like to share regarding your child, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am at Lacamas on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
