CFP professionals play a vital role in aiding the reduction or elimination of financial stress in the lives of the Canadians they serve. In order to rise to this challenge, they must develop sound emotional intelligence. The 2016 CFP Professional Symposium will focus on understanding clients’ needs, earning their trust, appreciating each client’s unique situation and approaching it from a holistic perspective, and empowering clients through effective communication. By embracing and embodying these professional traits, CFP professionals will naturally distinguish themselves.

A must-attend event for over 500 planners, certificants, and industry leaders in 2015, the 2016 CFP Professional Symposium promises to sell out again in both Toronto and Vancouver.

Celebration of the profession reception & dinnernovember 22, 2016 in toronto

The Celebration of the Profession Reception and Dinner gathers over 200 high-profile decision-makers in the financial services industry, regulators and representatives from all levels of government to celebrate outstanding contributors to the financial planning profession. This year’s Dinner will be emceed by comedienne/speaker/writer Kate Davis, a five-time nominee at the Canadian Comedy Awards.

ethics Breakfast Sessionnovember 23, 2016 in toronto november 25, 2016 in Vancouver

A strong professional standard, including universal adherence to a code of ethics, rules of conduct and practice standards, is a hallmark of any profession. It is a fundamental element of the commitment that clients’ interests are being served ethically, competently and diligently. Launched in 2015 following the introduction of a Continuing Education requirement in Professional Responsibility for CFP professionals and FPSC Level 1 Certificants in Financial Planning, the Ethics Breakfast Session explores important ethical questions that professional financial planners must consider in their practice, and was an extremely popular offering that sold out weeks before the event. This year’s Ethics Breakfast Session is expected to attract over 300 attendees.

It’s great when external circumstances are favorable. Intelligent work is also key. But there’s a third factor that’s really the common denominator among high performers—mindset— the way we manage the thoughts and emotions that impact everything we do. This is the most distinguishing element of success. It’s what enables us to clear our heads, make better decisions and enhance our relationships. Scott will explain how to develop this mental edge to become unstoppable.

For over 20 years, Scott Greenberg has captivated audiences with his presentations on leadership and peak performance mindset. His diverse client list includes Nike, Coffee Beanery, the Wyndham Hotel Group, the U.S. Air Force and countless other businesses, schools and associations.

We are proud to be presenting the following lineup of topics and speakers at this year’s Cfp professional Symposium:

Starting from the first meeting with a potential client and throughout your relationship, learn the keys to getting the right information for an effective partnership. You’ll learn how to screen a potential new client and assess whether they’re a good fit for you (or see the warning signs to avoid them). Grant will also illustrate how to maintain their focus, elicit difficult to discuss information and get personal without offending.

Grant Gold is a partner at Ricketts Harris LLP, practicing in the area of family law. He has particular expertise in the areas of mediation, creative problem solving, arbitration and negotiation. Grant has appeared as an expert witness for the Law Society of Upper Canada and has been named as one of Canada’s leading practitioners in the area of family law.

You may not be as influential as you think. Whether you’re influencing clients or peers or delivering a presentation, how you deliver determines whether others perceive you as credible, knowledgeable and trustworthy. Without doing this effectively, you inhibit your maximum potential to influence, increase profits and build a reputation to be proud of. Stacey will share how to consciously and deliberately communicate in a way to influence others to take action Monday to Monday.

Stacey Hanke is author of the book Yes You Can! Everything You Need From A To Z To Influence Others To Take Action, which provides practical and immediate skills and techniques that have given thousands the ability to be at their personal best in all face-to-face communication. Stacey helps individuals eliminate the static that plagues communicative delivery—empowering them to persuade, sell, influence and communicate face-to-face with a clear message.

New clients often come to you at times of significant transition in their lives. To meet their needs at these challenging junctures, you must develop sound emotional intelligence, including cultivating an understanding of human behaviour and an ability to apply this understanding to your interactions. Susan will demonstrate the tools you need to empower clients, earn their trust and understand and approach each client’s situation holistically.

After more than 20 years as a CFP professional, Susan Bradley sold her financial planning practice to develop transformational education programs for advisors, their clients, and the public. Susan is the founder of the Sudden Money® Institute (SMI), a resource center for Life Transitions and Good Decisions. The Institute trains financial advisors and other professionals in Financial Transitions Planning, a unique set of process and tools for managing the human dynamics of financial change. Susan is the author of Sudden Money: Managing a Financial Windfall.
