Page 2: 2015-2016 Season Brochure

TEN YEARS! Can you believe it? It has certainly been an exhilarating ride for all who have been involved since the early days of this musical adventure. The beginnings of the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra date back to the fall of 2005 when Remica Gray, Mary Scott Goode and I concocted this little idea of starting a symphony in Texarkana. The rest, as they say, is history. Those early days were some of the most exciting times of my professional life. I was only 29 years old and about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

To celebrate this milestone, we are inviting you to enjoy another breath-taking series of concerts. We will be offering some of the most brilliant symphonic music that the repertoire has to offer—from the passionate sounds of Romantic masters to the immortal works of Beethoven, Mozart, and

American musical giants—performed by our talented and dedicated musicians and world-class guest artists. More than ever, make sure that you attend each concert so you can celebrate this anniversary milestone with us throughout the year, and take part in our Audience Choice Award where you will be able to vote (at every concert) on a favorite piece of music that you would like to hear. The winning piece will be performed on our February concert.

Thank you so very much to all who have been part of this journey – Founding Patrons, Board Members, Concert-Goers, Donors, Musicians, Staff, Volunteers, and Supporters of all types.

Symphonically yours,

sustainability... the vital link to artistic growth

Texarkana is a community that has

always been passionate about the arts,

and the Symphony is honored to help

further that legacy by bringing the world

of symphonic music to our area. Yet

our capacity to pursue excellence in live

performance and educational programs

is directly related to the financial support

the community provides. It is only through

generous gifts from people like you who

are passionate about music, education and

their community, that we can create this

legacy of symphonic music for Texarkana.

Please help us set the stage for the present

and the future by adding an annual fund

contribution to your ticket order.

Did you know that ticket revenue only covers a quarter of the symphony’s operating costs?

TEXARKANA ARTS & HISTORIC DISTRICT

The Texarkana Symphony Orchestra is honored to call the Perot Theatre home. This Texarkana jewel opened in 1924 as a Saenger Theatre. Called “the most beautiful theatre in the South,” it featured silent movies, movie premieres, the nationally broadcast Fifth Annual War Bond Drive with host Orson Welles, and live performances by Annie Oakley, Will Rogers, and John Barrymore. Due to the growth of the modern movie plex and urban sprawl, the Theatre became a B movie house by the 1970s. The theatre was officially closed in 1977 when the City of Texarkana, TX, purchased it for $19,000. With the help of Texarkana natives H. Ross Perot and his sister, Bette, the theatre was restored to its current elegance at a cost of $2.4 million and reopened in 1981. The theatre is named for Gabriel Ross and Lulu May Perot, lifelong residents of the city and the parents of Ross and Bette. For 35 years the Perot Theatre has played host to some of the most celebrated stage and music performers of our time. For more information about the Perot, rental inquiries, or for a free tour, contact the box office at 903-792-4992.
