2) Single Issue: Domestic Violence and Guns Location: Bulfinch This panel will deep-dive into the issue of best practices to address cases of domestic violence in which guns or the threat of gun violence is involved. Studies indicate that the presence of firearms in domestic violence cases significantly increases the lethality risk for victims, with 46 women shot to death each month by a current or former partner in domestic violence-related homicides. In fact, intimate partner homicides account for nearly half of all women killed each year in the U.S. – and more than half of these deaths are attributed to firearm use. While federal legislation outlines seizures of weapons upon the issuance of a protective order, most states do not adequately comply or follow up on attempts to seize weapons. The San Mateo Pilot Project found that strict enforcement of weapons seizures has been able to cut firearms-related domestic violence homicides completely, with not a single related murder in three consecutive years since it was first implemented in 2010.

of Latina women were in management, business, and financial operations positions. In fact, low-wage jobs in the service and health care industries continue to be the primary employment source for most women of color.
