Jump Start Super Summer Institute 1
Welcome
Greetings, Super Summer Institute Participants,
What an exciting time this is for technical education in Louisiana. For the past several months we engaged parents, students, and educators in a conversation to improve access for all students to high wage, high demand careers. Jump Start is the state’s new program for school districts, colleges, and businesses to collaborate in providing career courses and workplace experiences to high school students, allowing them to continue their education after high school, certifying them for the career fields most likely to lead to high-wage jobs. Students participating in Jump Start will be provided more time during the school day and school year to achieve industry-based certificates or college credentials in addition to a high school diploma.
Super Summer Institute is a continuation of our collective work to provide students courses and credentials that will allow them to continue their education after high school or launch a career in Louisiana’s thriving workforce. In today’s age, it’s not college or career, but it’s two pathways, each requiring dynamic, disciplined adults. This week, secondary and postsecondary educators will take the necessary steps to revitalize our state’s career pathways by participating in certification trainings. Attendance at the institute is evidence of your eagerness to develop new technical skills and return to schools next month ready to prepare our students for credentialing opportunities that lead to a middle class career and wage. It is through this institute that we will advance college and career education, along with workforce preparation in Louisiana.
Thank you to the conference partners in planning this event. Thanks also to South Louisiana Community College and Lafayette Parish School System for opening your campuses to host the institute.
Again, welcome and thank you for being a part of this transforming effort in our state.
Sincerely,
John White
Superintendent
Louisiana Department of Education

Welcome
Greetings, Super Summer Institute Participants,
I am genuinely pleased and excited to welcome you to the 2014 Super Summer Institute (SSI). Louisiana Community and Technical College System is honored to be a co-host for the revitalization of SSI with two outstanding partners. South Louisiana Community College graciously opened their campuses to host the event, and the Louisiana Department of Education worked tirelessly to coordinate the sessions. The institute is a collaborative endeavor providing secondary and post-secondary instructors access to instructor credentials supporting Industry-Based Certification instruction and student credentials.
This year’s conference is a great opportunity to continue the Career and Technical Education momentum that the new “Jump Start” program has created with districts, parents, students, and business/industry partners around the state.
My thanks to the many staff members from each conference partner, who played a role in organizing this year’s conference. Thanks also to our many volunteers who have provide support to ensure the success of the conference.
Once again, welcome, and thank you for coming. Please enjoy the conference and leave refreshed, encouraged, and equipped to continue to prepare Louisiana’s citizens with the many career opportunities, available through Career and Technical Education programs.
Sincerely,
Dr. Monty Sullivan, President
Louisiana Community & Technical College System
