Breaking New Grounds – Expanding the Reach of the Kapuso Network The CEO’s 2012 ReportAnnual Stockholders’ Meeting15 May 2013

Fellow directors, officers, employees and shareholders of GMA, guests, ladies and gentlemen, magandang umaga, mga Kapuso!

Allow me to share with you several milestones of the year just ended, and give you a preview of what we have in store for the immediate future.

As you are aware, our commitment has been to enrich the lives of the Filipino with superior entertainment and the responsible delivery of news and information. Our comprehensive coverage of the just-concluded mid-term elections is another manifestation of this. The full force of our News and Public Affairs organization was out there, covering everything important that had to do with the elections with our trademark, “Walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan, walang kasinungalingan, serbisyong totoo lamang.”

In 2012, we labored to bring to the small screen a wide array of programs that catered to the discriminating taste of the Filipino viewer.

We also initiated efforts to extend the delivery of our content beyond the television screen. In 2012, we rose to the challenges of a multi-screen environment.

To sustain our ratings and revenue

performance, we not only strengthened our programming content, but also expanded our reach, both in the domestic and global arenas.

Expanding our reachFrom mid-2012 up to the beginning of 2013, we inaugurated three originating stations: one each in Ilocos Sur, Naga and Cagayan de Oro. These new stations, with their own local sales and programming capability, complement your Network’s existing originating stations in Dagupan, Iloilo, Cebu and Davao as well as our satellite TV stations in Bacolod and General Santos.

Expanding our reach and enhancing our signal are crucial for a 100% coverage of the entire Philippine archipelago. According to the 2012 AGB Nielsen Total Philippines Establishment Survey, our coverage of the country’s urban TV households stands at 97%, while in the rural areas, it is 93%. In 2011, our coverage of the rural areas was only 87%.

Technology is fast revolutionizing the broadcast business. For us to stay on top, we need to be not only abreast of technological and technical innovations, but also be one step ahead of the competition.

FinancialsOur financial performance reflects our prudence in spending, strategic resource allocation and smart overall fiscal management.

In 2012, GMA Network’s consolidated gross revenues settled at P13.929 billion - a 6% jump over our 2011 performance. EBITDA also registered a double digit increase of 11% over 2011, closing at P3.414 billion.

Total operating expenses inched up by 6% to P9.537 billion due to the amortization of program rights, the CBA-related salary increases and the bonuses given the employees.

Your Network’s consolidated net income in 2012 was at P1.617 billion, about the same as 2011.

Later on, our Vice President for Finance, Mr. Ronnie Mastrili, will share with us an analysis of our financial performance vis a vis our competitor.

Ratings In 2012, we continued to lord it over the ratings game.

We maintained our lead in NUTAM TV ratings over ABS-CBN, posting an average total day household audience share of 34.4%. This was up by 2.9 percentage points versus ABS-CBN’s 31.5% average.

GMA also registered double digit leads in our bailiwick areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila. We beat ABS-CBN by 10.8 percent in Urban Luzon and 13.4 percent in Mega Manila.

Again, later on, our Vice President for Research, Ms. Sheila Tan, will provide a more detailed picture of our ratings performance in 2012.

GMA News TV remained the leading News and Public Affairs channel in the country, gaining a 2% increase in its gross revenues.

Both DZBB and DWLS remained in the number 2 spot in their respective categories.

Other business unitsAnd now, a quick glance at the performance of our other business units:

Our Regional TV posted a 25% increase in gross revenues.

However, revenues of our Radio dropped by 3%.

GMA International continued to increase its subscriber base. We closed 2012 with the following subscriber numbers:329,108 subscribers for GMA Pinoy TV – a

13% increase over 2011124,884 subscribers for GMA Life TV – a 9% increase over 2011

However, despite this continued uptrend, our subscription and advertising revenues declined by 0.9% because of the appreciation of the Peso against the US Dollar. Discounting the impact of the FOREX fluctuation, though, international sales grew by 2%.

SubsidiariesLet us move on to our subsidiaries.

As of 2012, we have 11 subsidiaries, three JVs, and two affiliates.

Overall, the consolidated revenues of GMA’s subsidiaries increased by 14% in 2012 versus 2011. The primary contributor to this growth was Digify, Inc., the techno-creative lab of GMA New Media that creates technology based solutions for various companies.

The self-titled album of Julie Anne San Jose released by GMA Records received a platinum digital award. Our young Kapuso talent also earned the distinction of being the first ever to be accorded the platinum digital single award as her album’s carrier single, “I’ll Be There,” garnered over 245,000 downloads during the said period.

GMA Films fielded 2 entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival: Sosy Problems and Si Agimat, Si Enteng At Si Ako, co-produced with M-Zet and Imus Productions. Si Agimat, Si Enteng At Si Ako earned almost P98 million in gross receipts.

GMA Worldwide ended 2012 with total sales of US$1,006,849.45 as some 60 program and movie titles were sold to various companies in 15 countries.

Cumulative 2012 revenues of ALTA Productions stood at P48.9 million, up by 6% versus 2011. Audio dubbing services were the primary contributor to these revenues.

Gross revenues for Script2010 ended at P131.42 million with earnings from internal stage and set construction alone reaching P35.59 million.

ConclusionAs expected, 2012 was a challenging year for GMA Network.

Nonetheless, your Company was able to achieve a modicum of success during the year. As it moves forward and looks to make greater strides in 2013 and beyond, your Network believes that continuously expanding and adding new revenue sources should be astutely and selectively pursued.

Global industry analysts predict that with the growing market fragmentation, the traditional network model used by broadcast companies may no longer be able to deliver the kind of growth that has been experienced in the past.

For broadcast companies to survive and thrive in the future, they may have to evolve along three dimensions: one, broadening the reach to new media channels and formats; two, expanding

the relationship with customers through personalized services; and, three, prolonging the content lifecycle by creating new products.

Your Network has started to explore all of these. Rest assured, GMA Network is more than prepared to meet and

surmount the forthcoming challenges in the broadcast industry.

Kudos to our growing pool of employees and talents who continue to do their fair share in growing our Network’s business.

And of course, our heartfelt thanks to you, our dear stockholders, for your continued faith and support of GMA Network, and to our directors, officers, employees and talents for their cooperation and assistance.

Your Network is more than poised to yield the best returns for you.

Maraming salamat at magandang umaga ulit, mga Kapuso.

Kapuso artist Jonalyn Viray rendered a stirring invocation, sans accompaniment.

GMA Network Chairman and Chief Executive Atty. Felipe L. Gozon delivered the CEO’s Report.

GMA net income soars 55% in Q1

Sales from Radio operations grew 27 percent as a result of DZBB and LSFM maintaining their competitive position nationwide and in Mega Manila, thereby boosting advertising load, while leading local news channel GMA News TV registered flat growth in airtime revenues.

Meanwhile, subscription and advertising revenues from GMA International improved by 7 percent owing to the rise in advertising placements in this platform over last year. The subscriber uptake of GMA’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV and the first Filipino lifestyle channel abroad GMA Life TV, respectively, increased by 9 percent to almost 330,000 subscribers, and 6 percent to close to 125,000 subscribers. GMA International manages the operations and distribution of the Network’s international channels.

In an effort to further strengthen the value proposition of the GMA Channels, GMA International recently relaunched its broadcast services in the Middle East and East Africa via its new carrier MyHD - offering the three international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International at a lower cost of $25 but with the addition of 28 English language programs, 14 of which are in High Definition. Likewise, GMA International fortified its presence in Canada through the launch of the GMA Package in most of the major carries in the area, and added Palau to its worldwide family.

GMA Worldwide, the program syndication and licensing arm of GMA, sold over 900 hours of program and movie titles to Brunei, Cambodia, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, and many other countries.

The self-titled album of Kapuso singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose under GMA Records continues to do well in terms of sales as it scored a Triple Platinum Record Award from its combined physical and digital sales of over 52,000 units for the period August 15, 2012 to February 26, 2013. San Jose’s carrier single “I’ll Be There” already hit over 375,000 downloads landing it a Double Platinum Digital Single Award – with Julie Anne being the very first recipient of this award according to the Philippine Association of the Record Industry.

The company’s total operating expenses, on the other hand, grew by only 13 percent to P2.371 billion year-on-year primarily on increased production costs in an effort to further strengthen its programming. Adding to the increase in direct cost are the depreciation of the commissioning of new studios in the regions and from major renovations and upgrade of other broadcast facilities nationwide. General and administrative expenses (GAEX) surpassed last year by only 5 percent mainly due to the increase in personnel cost.

GMA allotted P91 million for its coverage of the recent mid-term elections. This year, GMA utilized the highly sophisticated Vizrt Immersive Graphic System interfaced with the Mosys camera tracking system to allow for a more dynamic and seamless presentation of information, context packages and real time immersive graphics. The same tracking system was used by CNN for their 2012 U.S. Presidential Election coverage. The Network also purchased a digital mobile news gathering system called 10 Ibis Pro for a faster exchange of information between the base and GMA reporters, among other facilities including the fully-equipped GMA election hub.

The company thus ended the first quarter with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of P1.189 billion or a 56 percent growth versus the same period last year.

Last May 14, GMA paid out to its shareholders cash dividends amounting to P1.215 billion (25 centavos per share) much higher compared to the amount released by ABS-CBN, which was only about P300 million.

On television, GMA maintained its leadership in the key areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila for the first quarter, based on data from the broadcast industry’s more widely recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. Urban Luzon and Mega Manila account for 76 and 59 percent, respectively, of the total urban TV households in the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA registered a total day audience share of 35.4 percent – ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.2 by 6.2 points and of TV5’s 15 percent by 20.4 points. GMA likewise kept its ratings edge in its bailiwick Mega Manila with 36.3 percent – up 9.1 points from ABS-CBN’s 27.2 percent and up 20.4 points from TV5’s 15.9 percent.

GMA will launch at least 9 new programs this June and anticipates larger ratings margins with its new programming grid.

GMA Network had an impressive year-on-year growth in both revenues and profits for the first quarter of 2013, supported by its improved performance across key financial indicators.

Consolidated revenues for the first quarter were up 24 percent at P3.241 billion; net income increased 55 percent to P603 million compared to last year.

This marked improvement in Q1 earnings came mostly from the rise in airtime revenues, which climbed 26 percent to P2.950 billion during the quarter.

While political advocacies and advertisements provided incremental revenues in the topline amounting to 12 percent of the increase, recurring advertisements still contributed the greater balance or 14 percent of the total revenue hike. “We are more than pleased with the performance of the company for the first quarter,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

“Such improvements validate our forecast that 2013 will be a particularly strong year for GMA. Our sales continue to grow at a steady pace and we look forward to the future with optimism,” he added.

GMA’s flagship Channel 7 accounted for 85 percent of the total airtime earnings and reflected a 26 percent upsurge. Revenues from Regional TV, the business unit that manages GMA’s Regional TV operations, grew by 85 percent, following its continued expansion programs.

Two new originating stations namely GMA Ilocos and GMA Bicol (formerly a satellite station) opened in the second half of last year, while the Cagayan de Oro satellite station was also upgraded into an originating station in the first quarter of this year. These newly operational originating stations along with the rest of the Regional TV stations showed remarkable improvements in their respective top lines with the Cebu and Dagupan originating stations still leading the roster.

GMA News and Public Affairs’ Eleksyon 2013 was the preferred election day coverage of Filipinos nationwide, based on overnight data from ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

On May 13, Election Day, GMA’s Eleksyon 2013 special coverage from between 6 am and midnight scored an average household rating of 11.6 percent in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM). ABS-CBN’s election coverage managed only 10.6 percent, while TV5’s posted 2.8 percent.

In Urban Luzon, GMA’s election coverage scored 13.5 percent, up by 3.7 points from ABS-CBN’s 9.8 percent, and up by 10.7 points from TV5’s 2.8 percent.

In Mega Manila, the Network’s bailiwick, GMA’s Eleksyon 2013 registered an even bigger margin over competitors with its household rating of 14.4 percent besting ABS-CBN’s 9.2

percent by 5.2 points and beating TV5’s 3.1 percent by 11.3 points.

More importantly, GMA News and Public Affairs’ Eleksyon 2013 coverage set the news agenda among television broadcasters.

With its 47 strategically selected live remote points, GMA was able to report the biggest stories first, including police attempts to search the Revilla home in Cavite, bomb explosions in Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao, a mayor’s supporter found dead in Abra, the commotion in a Manila school caused by armed members of the MNLF, faulty PCOS machines in many precincts. GMA was ahead of competition in airing live voting of many senatorial candidates in their hometowns. Also notable were heartwarming GMA news reports about persons with disabilities and the elderly fainting outside precincts yet still determined to cast their votes.

GMA utilized the highly sophisticated Vizrt immersive graphics system interfaced with a tracking system to allow dynamic presentation of election related facts and figures – with anchors even managing to walk around the graphics. This was led by the video graphics of the 33 senatorial

candidates who seemed to be posing live inside GMA’s massive election set – a visual effect much lauded on social media.

After the polls closed, GMA was the go-to channel for the latest count results, preempting its primetime soap operas to deliver this public service. Before midnight of election day, GMA was already documenting the proclamation of early winners in the local races.

GMA News Online developed its own search engine thereby making count data easily accessible to the public at split second speed. Its count data is not just fast but deep: users can access election counts all the way down to the councilor level of every municipality of every province because of this smart search. Social media applications powered by US based Mass Relevance tracked Facebook and Twitter buzz about senatorial candidates and surveyed social media users about their voting experiences. In studio throughout the coverage, GMA’s E13 call and data center manned by hundreds of AMA volunteers, mapped election related incidents all over the country.

GMA International, GMA Network’s business unit that manages the operations and distribution of its international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International, bagged two nominations in the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards alongside some of the biggest names in the US television industry.

GMA Pinoy TV’s long-running immigration program Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika (Into the Hearts of Filipinos in America) was nominated in the Foreign Language category while the 30-minute cooking show Kusina Master, which is seen worldwide via GMA Life TV, earned a nomination in the Lifestyle category.

Hosted by immigration lawyer Atty. Lou Tancinco, Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika is now on its 8th season of informing

the Filipino-American community on immigration law. This time around, the show tackles immigrant issues and stories that are affected by new immigration policies. To unravel the complexities of the immigration system, the show is bringing its audience back to the basics with its episodes exclusively focused on the most common questions and challenges that people face in the immigration system.

Meanwhile, Chef Boy Logro’s Kusina Master has become a popular source of entertainment and recipes among Filipinos abroad ever since it started airing on GMA Life TV, the first and only Filipino lifestyle channel abroad, in March 2012. With each episode, Filipino Americans are introduced to new and exciting dishes that remind them of the exceptional flavor and qualities of Pinoy cooking.

“We welcome these nominations from NAMIC and are grateful for their continuous appreciation for our programs,” said GMA Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia.

This is the second time that GMA International was nominated in the NAMIC Vision Awards. The first time was for multi-awarded broadcaster Mike Enriquez’s Review Philippines, which aired on GMA Pinoy TV in 2007.

The NAMIC Vision Awards is described in the NAMIC website as “one of the few national competitions that salutes original television or digital content that reflects the depth and breadth of experience, and contributions of people of color.” It is founded in 1994 by NAMIC Southern California and is presented this year by the NAMIC National office in partnership with NAMIC-Southern California.

The announcement of the NAMIC Vision Awards nominees was held during New Bay Media’s Multiethnic TV Summit and Leadership Awards on April 17, 2013 at the Hilton New York, while the winners will be awarded in Los Angeles, California in May.

“Dream Big. Now. ”FLG’s Commencement Speech at UP Los Baños27 April 2013

(Salutation)

I am proud to speak before you just within minutes before you get hold of your respec-tive diplomas, proof of your hard work and the fruit of your parents’, guardians’ and teachers’ sacrifices and support. Congratulations to all of you!

I just learned that one of your batchmates, Alyssa Asilo, inspite of having been diagnosed with leukemia last year, tenaciously persisted in completing her course in the College of Veteri-nary Medicine at UP Los Baños. She was post-humously given her medal and diploma with honors that she richly deserved this morning.

I can find no better example of the sheer de-termination of a student to pursue her dream to graduate, despite the odds, hardship and outcome, than that shown by Alyssa.

Today, you graduate from an institution that cultivates dreams – yours and those of thou-sands who came before you and of thousands of others who will come after you – and ena-bles those dreams to become reality.

But UP Los Baños is not your dream-weaving factory from fantasyland where all dreams come true in a snap. At UP, you are taught that it pays to study well not only for you to get good grades, but also to open your eyes to the discovery and rediscovery of knowledge. Simply put, this campus, manned by the best teachers and mentors, set in a fresh mountain environment, prepared you well to be impor-tant players in the real world.

As you leave UP, you will not be without fear. For we all know that life’s journey is full of un-certainties. And you are not exempt from life’s challenges just because of your passage from being “Iskolar ng Bayan” to “college gradu-ate.”

But do not be disheartened. Think about what I am about to say, and believe.

As author Marianne Williamson aptly said: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful be-yond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabu-lous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.”

So, you should dream big and have confi-dence in yourselves, but at the same time stay in touch with the realities around you.

Gain experience and absorb knowledge as much as you can. It is not a joke that indeed, experience is the best teacher.

Also remember that joining the ranks of the employed is not your only opportunity to make your own mark in this world. You can also be an entrepreneur. Think of a product or service you can offer differently. Innovate and create a niche in business.

Most of the successful Chinese families I know encourage their children to start a business, big or small, apart from gaining employment. More than planning to be employees, they plan to be employers, thus contributing more to the national economy.

Iba na rin kasi ang panahon ngayon.

Thomas Friedman, an opinion columnist of the New York Times, wrote, “My generation had it easy. We got to ‘find’ a job. But, more than ever, our kids will have to ‘invent’ a job, adding that given the pace of change today, even those who find jobs will have to re-invent, re-engineer and re-imagine that job much more than their parents if they want to advance in it.

This is an age when things are seemingly unstructured, not like before when there were rules for everything. But you are lucky to have the world practically at your fingertips. Young people today need not try too hard to know of cultures or economies of countries at the op-posite side of the globe.

You have Facebook, Twitter, short messaging systems or text messaging. You have Instagram to share your precious moments in pictures. You have apps that help you cut down or even eradicate library time and physical group studies. You have Google to give you well-re-searched data in a flash. You just need to know how and where to look.

So dream big, but do not be afraid of hard work. I believe I did the same thing not so long ago and by the grace of God, I now have this opportunity to share with you my story today.

Early on, I had always wanted to be a law-yer. My family and friends thought the same because as a child, I loved to argue and never ran out of questions. To make a long story short, I went to the best law school in the country – the UP College of Law, of course.

Later on, I got a fellowship from the best law school in the United States— that’s Yale Law School.

particular job offer over one that offered bigger pay and his own office because, “I thought that Ponce Enrile was the place where I can train and experience broader fields of law. At that time, I thought I needed that more than comfort, luxury and a higher salary. Specialization can come later.”

Gozon is a proud UP alumnus, from his elementary years all the way to his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1962.

After my fellowship, I sent my applications to two of the biggest and most prestigious law firms in the Philippines at that time—the Sycip, Salazar, Luna, Manalo and Feliciano Law Firm and the Ponce Enrile, Siguion Reyna, Montecil-lo and Belo Law Firm.

At Sycip, I was offered an initial salary of 1,000 pesos, which was considered substantial for starting lawyers in the 1960’s. I recall then that the dollar was worth only 2 pesos. On top of that, I was to have a small office space of my own. I was supposed to fill a vacancy in the section on Patents and their most senior part-ner even took the time to interview me.

At Ponce Enrile, on the other hand, I do not re-member being interviewed at all. I was offered 450 pesos a month with no office of my own. I was just told that I would be provided with a temporary desk at the office’s library.

While many thought it was a no-brainer that I join Sycip, I did otherwise. I joined Ponce Enrile after much reflection.

Why? Because aside from being young, and thinking of myself as brilliantand talented at that time just like you, I was also prepared to work really hard, dealing with the multi-faceted practice of law, instead of dealing with just a very narrow, specialized field of Patent Law.I thought that Ponce Enrile was the place

where I can train and experience broader fields of law. At that time, I thought I needed that more than comfort, luxury and a higher salary. Speciali-zation can come later.

When now Senate President Johnny Ponce Enrile joined the Marcos administration in 1966, there was no associate lawyer in the Ponce En-rile law firm who could actively take over the tax cases and matters he was handling at that time. Since I had mastered the subjects of Taxation and Corpo-ration Laws at Yale, the partners chose me to take over the work that Johnny left behind.

Looking back, I know I made the right choice. Barely a year and a half, I was made Junior Partner.

While my mother may have thought it was my

charming personality that helped to get me promoted, the fact is that it was really a mix of very hard work and dreaming big. It helped that I exerted extra efforts to learn. Although I already had my hands full withthe tax cases and other assignments given to me, I still took the initiative to ask from and handle other cases of my co-associates, most of which we won in court.

From 450 pesos, my take home salary from Ponce Enrile jumped to 4,000 pesos a month, so much so that I was able to import a 2,000 dollar Mercury Cougar from the United States in 1969. Undeniably, my top of the line car earned me a few more so-called pogi points. But kidding aside, you can just imagine the hard work that had to be done before I could drive my dream car.

Much, much later, I established my own law firm together with a senior partner, Ike Belo, in the Ponce Enrile law firm. Among our clients was a man named Bob Stewart, popularly known before as the Lucky 7 Club’s Uncle Bob. He, too, was a big dreamer, having operated a hole-in-the-wall radio station which he evolved into a radio/TV broadcasting company. Bob literally brought the business of television to me. When he needed to sell the shares of his fledgling broadcasting company, he looked up to me as a buyer. To tell you the truth, I initially said no. But then, I finally decided to give it a shot.

We were then doing fine producing shows that gained patronage among certain audiences and getting by in terms of viewership ratings and revenues. Back then, GMA 7 was content in playing second fiddle to the industry leader. But I when took the helm of the company in October of 2000, I dreamed big, in fact, bigger than anyone else at your Kapuso Network. I dreamed of making GMA 7 number 1 and ral-lied my team to work harder than ever before. The rest is history. Together, we have trans-formed GMA into the multi-media giant that it is today. And we are now Number 1!In the book “Outliers’, author Malcolm Glad-well introduced the “10,000 hour rule” which suggests that it takes about 10,000 hours of hard work and practice to become an expert at anything. I think he is correct.

As a young lawyer, I invested more hours than most lawyers my age in the study of various fields of law. At GMA Network, we collectively invested a lot of precious manhours to get to where we are now. You can do the same and perhaps much more.

As part of UP Los Baños’s proud tradition of graduating the country’s best scientists, engi-neers and artists, among others, be reminded that your country needs you to do well—either as a professional or as an entrepreneur.

So that the future engineers and scientists here present will be instrumental in building infra-structure to grow the country’s agriculture and business industry.

So that future policy-makers and public serv-ants will ensure that farm-to-market roads and bridges are well-constructed and strategically located for food products to reach the con-sumer fresh and cheap.

So that the future doctors, agriculturists, forest-ers, artists, media personalities, and educators among you today will push reforms that will enhance the totality of the well-being of each and every Filipino.

Lastly, let me leave you with this gem from French Nobel Prize for Literature winner Jacques Thibault or Anatole France, and I quote, “To accomplish great things, we not only act but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”

So, carry on, dear graduates, the world is your playground now. Play well, play hard, play fair and of course, play smart.

Mabuhay kayong lahat. Maraming salamat.

“We are driven by our Passion for Excellence,” so goes one of the corporate values of GMA Network.

It is in this spirit that the Kapuso Network recognizes the achievements of graduates from select universities who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, technical skill, and academic performance through its CSR program called the GMA Network Excellence Award.

Formerly known as the GMA President’s Medal, the GMA Network Excellence Award is a symbol of excellence that embodies the Network’s values and ideals – integrity, leadership, public service, and responsibility – and is given to outstanding graduates of broadcast-related courses including electronics and communications engineering.

According to GMA Network’s Assistant Vice President for Corporate Affairs Ma. Teresa L. Pacis, “The Network hopes to serve as a motivational influence to all graduates to always strive for excellence and challenge them to do outstanding work when they practice their craft.”

From its inception until 2012, the GMA Network Excellence Award has cited a total of 31 students from partner universities namely University of the Philippines (Diliman, Cebu, and Mindanao), Don Bosco Technical College (Mandaluyong), and Angeles University Foundation (Pampanga). GMA Network Excellence Awardees each receive the GMA Excellence Award plaque and P10,000 cash prize.

This year, seven students, all with Latin honors, are added to this roster: Igai Jada P. Andres (Journalism), Trizia S. Terada (Broadcast Communications), and Jestine Mari Sanchez (Communication Research) from UP-Diliman, Cheska Micaela B. Kabiling (Mass Communication) from AUF, Jessica Camille G. Mamaril (Electronics Communications Engineering) from Don Bosco, King Anthony V. Perez (Mass Communication) from UP-Cebu, and Alethea Louise D. Gamalong (Communication Arts) from UP-Mindanao.

The GMA Network Excellence Award has been conferred to deserving graduates in Manila since 2001. In school year 2009-2010, the Award was introduced in the Visayas Region through UP-Cebu. In

2011, a merit award was then given to a graduate of the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan. Last year, a special edition of the Award was also given to a student of Adamson University, in commemoration of its 80th Foundation Day. This 2013, the Award was launched in the Mindanao region through UP-Mindanao.

The Award has also been extended to the finalists of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) – NCR since 2012. This year’s recipient of the GMA Network Excellence Award Special Edition is Gianina Joy Nathania L. Napo a Mass Communication graduate of the Far Eastern University.

Spearheaded by the RFM Foundation, TOSP is a formation program that honors graduating college students who have excelled academically, manifested exemplary leadership, and dedicated themselves in the service of their communities throughout their college life, all founded on strong moral values of integrity, patriotism, and selfless service.

The awardees of the GMA Network Excellence Award underwent a panel interview with select GMA Network personalities and officers and are chosen based on scholastic achievement, relevance of related works, and leadership skills.

Some awardees and finalists are now working in GMA Network, in various capacities. Among them are GMA News reporters Dano Tingcungco, Jam Sesante, Micaela Papa, GMA News Online reporter Kimberly Jane Tan, Saksi segment producer Sophia Balod, and GMA Cebu sales producer Rachel Sindo.
