Regular Meeting

9/19/12

Highlights from the first council meeting of 2012/2013!

1. Julie Moseley talked about a few open positions on the Council. If anyone is interested please contact

Julie.

2. Destination Imagination is putting teams together and recruiting parent coordinators. There is a DI

Awareness Night October 2 at Creek Valley Middle School in Carrollton from 7:00-8:30pm. They

encouraged us to bring our entire family to the meeting!

3. Acute Care donation – Explained that this money is usually requested by school nurses for acute care

such as a high fever, flu, ear infection…for a child with an immediate need. They ask us to contribute

$50 which is about what it costs to send one child to Pedi Place for help.

4. Dressed to learn – Explained different ways to help other than just a $$ donation. In the past Marcus

collected gift cards and the Student Council purchased clothes for the program.

5. Environmental Program – the council coordinator is AWESOME – she is willing to come to any campus

and help with the program – if a PTA does not have a coordinator in that position she will be the

coordinator. Her name is Ramona Hlavinka.

6. Parent Education – Kris Vaughn presented the Parent and Teen Pledge to “IT Can Wait” – an anti

texting while behind the wheel campaign. They are asking all drivers – students and parents to sign

this pledge (I’ve attached it to the email).

7. Dr. Waddell spoke about the Resolution concerning High Stakes Testing.

Dress to Learn:

Dress to learn is a partnership with LISD Council of PTAs and Communities in

Schools of North Texas (CISNT). This program was established in 2004 for the

benefit of Lewisville ISD students needing basic clothing items to ensure students

arrive at school Dressed to Learn! Any child in LISD who is determined to need

a helping hand may benefit from this program.

MHS PTSA:

This year the MHS student council and PTSA collected money to buy shoes for

the students in need within LISD.

In addition the PTSA, headed by Charlotte and Emily Jeacock, initiated a MHS

shoe drive and collected more than a 150 shoes for the program.

The PTSA community Outreach Chair, Jeannie Jeacock contributed a significant

amount of donation of Dental hygiene products from various dental offices in the

surrounding areas.

National Arbor Day:

Donna Hodge is Pride and Beautification. I'm not sure you will hear from her so

our project for this has been moved to August. The campus will be losing three

very large trees in the front due to renovations being done to the front of

campus. We will plant three nice size trees once the work is complete. This is in

conjunction with our project for National Arbor Day also.

Keep up the good work!

Chairpersons,

Michelle Harris and Gina Gardenhire

At the end of every marking period the Marcus HS PTSA sponsors the Magnificent Marauder

Program. This allows each teacher at Marcus to select one student per class period that has

shown exceptional performance academically, has great enthusiasm, or has demonstrated

perseverance and/or improvements. Each teacher has submitted their nomination along

with a brief statement which will be included on the back on their certificate as to why the

student was chosen for this award.

One of your student’s teachers has selected them as a Magnificent Marauder!

There will be a ceremony followed by a small reception to honor these students on May 21,

2013 at 6:30pm in the Marcus HS cafeteria. Dress is casual and this ceremony lasts

approximately 45 minutes depending on the number of attendees. We ask each student to

arrive no later than 6:15pm in order to check in.

Congratulations and we hope to see you at the ceremony!
