A beautiful 1950 XK-120 owned by Rob Loffler. This car is truly a living legend with a history to boot. Originally purchased as a fire tender car in 1950’s, the car was amazingly fast and was quite a sight on Adelaide roads when attending fires.

PRESIDENTS REPORT
November 2011 Sunday 16 October was a pleasant sunny day and saw a large number of Jaguar motorcars and their proud owners from the JDCSA and the JCCC gather at Civic Park, Modbury for the annual SA Jaguar Day. This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Mark 10/420G models and the 40th anniversary of the V12 engine, thus there was special emphasis on these two milestones in the Jaguar history, with a wonderful display of the “big cars”. The timeline and lunchtime parade of special interest cars added to the entertainment of the day. There is
no doubt that everyone there enjoyed the display as did the huge number of general public who looked in to view the cars.
All this could not have happened without the help and support of many people behind the scenes. I take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Di Adamson and her team of helpers (you all know who you are) for organizing a great day for our enjoyment. In addition, I also thank Solitaire for displaying the current model XJ saloon which created a great deal of interest.
It is a pleasure to see two of our members being written up in the national press. Rick Luff’s XJS racer has received prominent coverage in the current issue of Jaguar Magazine and Alan Baker’s E-type has been featured in Unique Cars. Both articles make good reading and I suggest that you seek them out at your local newsagent. The personal touch to these articles make them just that much more interesting.
While on the subject of Jaguar articles, I was most impressed with the XKR-S that was written up in the Advertiser last Saturday and due for release at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1st next year. It boasts the lowest CO2 emission for cars in its class, speed limited at 300km/h and an acceleration of 0-100km/h in 4.4 secs. Very impressive indeed. And how about the colour, French Racing Blue? That really appeals and probably brings out my latent interest in early Bugattis. It does not hurt to dream a little.
Referring to my report last month, we are still seeking members who are interested in helping to plan and run the National Rally in 2014. Please give it some thought as we need you. Doug Tilley, who was the National Rally Director for the 2007 Rally has written an article, for this issue of Classic Marque, on his experiences, which highlights the satisfaction his committee felt after a very successful event. It is hard work, but well worth the effort. Thank you Doug for putting pen to paper.
Finally, the December General Meeting will be kept as informal as possible, starting around 8.00pm As in previous years we plan to provide professional entertainment and supper platters, all sponsored by the Club. We encourage you to support the Police Club and come for a meal beforehand and then continue on with the fun afterwards.

The members discussed our Register Christmas Dinner to be held on Friday, 2nd of December, at the German Club, 226 Flinders Street, Adelaide starting at 7.00pm. The dinner will be 3 courses with 3 options for each course at $39.00 per head. Those wishing to attend can give their names to Bob A.S.A.P. A deposit of $10 each required by next meeting.

SA Jag Day - 2011
SA Jag Day was held on 16 October and this year it was held at a new venue. Civic Park at Tea Tree Gully was the location to showcase as many cats from around Adelaide as possible. The weather was fantastic and the support terrific.
Over 100 cars graced the oval and looked stunning against the beautiful green grass and majestic gums. We had a time line of cars that paraded amongst the public gallery where “The Voice”, yes you guessed it, Mr Peter Clarke once again wowed the crowds with his charismatic tones along with the history of each car.
The location was new but the support from club members was fantastic as usual. The SA Jag Day committee spent many days preparing for this event to ensure it was as successful as previous years. All the hard work from last years organisers made the task a lot easier so we anticipate next year will be even better.
Ex President Rick Luff was on hand to provide commentary on all the models represented on the day which kept the public captivated and on the edge of their shorts. Many club members stayed until stumps which is also a good sign of a satisfied crowd.
Regalia was a hit and Kath Taylor managed to move a lot of merchandise. She said it was great fun and you get to meet so many people from the club. If you would like to have a go at managing the regalia for the club, the position is OPEN.

To keep the jag supporters happy, we had music, an espresso van with great coffee, the Tea Tree Rotary Club selling sausages and awesome bacon and egg sambos plus one vendor selling piping hot fresh donuts. From the look on everyone’s faces, they were well and truly satisfied.
Next year will be upon us in no time SO, think about putting up your hand to help organise next years event. It is great fun and very rewarding on the day.

Organising a Jaguar National Rally by Doug Tilley Rally Director 2007
Peter Holland has asked me, as Rally Director for the 2007 National Jaguar Rally, to give a brief overview of the responsibilities and requirements to run a successful Jaguar National rally. Let me start by saying that it was challenging in the ensuing two years, exciting during the rally duration and enormously satisfying at the conclusion. In the end I was very glad I had done it.
The two main ingredients for the Rally are - People and Location, in that order. I was very fortunate to have a team of club members who supported me fully and did a fantastic job to ensure the Rally’s success.
We spent a very busy two and a half years planning the Rally. My wife Judy and I visited a number of rallies prior to ours to get a handle on how they are run. We then spent the Easter prior, in Adelaide, visiting as many venues as possible, to see how each area looked over the planned rally period and what locations would be most suitable for our rally.
Here then, are the major items and challenges that must be attended to and managed, in setting up a Jaguar national rally.
1. Location: One must consider secure car parking, car cleaning facilities, location to sporting venue, location to other functions, capacity of venue to hold cocktail party (150 guests), dinner (100 guests), location to other points of interest and for the ladies, shopping. We are fortunate that Adelaide is a relatively compact city. All events, with the exception of the sporting event, were held within a 5km radius of rally headquarters. The Stamford Grand Ballroom was used for the Friday welcome cocktail party and the Sunday presentation dinner. Morphettville Race Course with its Easter Craft Fair was a perfect location for Concours Day. The tram took delegates direct from door to door. Taking the car was a simple 5 minute journey. Glenelg Aussie Rules Football Club had just recently opened a new $1 million dollar function centre just 1km from rally headquarters. This was our venue for Saturday night. Mallala Race Circuit is 70km North of Adelaide which finally allowed the cars to stretch their legs for the Sunday sporting event and alternate Sunday run. The Monday Brunch was held at Adelaide Sailing Club, just 3km North of Rally Headquarters, from here the post rally tour commenced. 2. People: Great people make a great rally. We decided to make each of our club Register’s responsible for an event. Eg The Multivalve register was responsible for the Saturday night function , the XK register was responsible for the alternative Sunday run and so on. This was possibly the single most significant decision we made, because the registers then had ownership of their responsibility and to their credit, all saw their given task through to the end. Also in addition, specific people were delegated certain duties such as treasury, bookings, sponsorship, rally handbook, publicity etc 3. Booking Method: It is very important to make the booking system simple. We pioneered the use of booking over the Internet. This did give us a few headaches due to the number of parties involved and our inexperience. However it worked to our satisfaction and with the current excellent webmaster in the club and peoples expanded knowledge of the internet, this method should work better in the future. Also rally participants are now much more Web savvy. 4. Regalia: A very important part of every rally. An excellent income stream also. Use the KISS method here. Keep it simple. 5. Rally Theme and Logo: All Jaguar rallies have a theme. This must be settled early so that a rally logo can be developed. The regalia can then also then be produced. This can also be a big publicity item. For us, getting the only two original D Types at X Million dollars each to Adelaide created great publicity for our rally.
6. Finances: A critical part of the rally is the setting of a budget and regularly reviewing costs against budget. Plan for a modest surplus. It is also critical to set up a system where duties and responsibilities are measured against a time line. We reviewed our project plan at every meeting, which was held monthly for the two years prior. As the time frame drew closer we met even more regularly.

7. Rally Handbook: A very important part of the rally. This must tell the attendee exactly what is happening, where and when. This is also a great place for sponsor advertising. It also becomes a memento of the rally. Every attendee receives one at registration. 8. Communication and Publicity: I gave a progress report to club members every month for the two years prior to the rally. Also we communicated regularly to all other Jaguar clubs. As the rally drew close we then started a publicity campaign. The year prior to our rally we gave a presentation to attendees at the2006 rally. This was in the form of a video presentation, a speech by myself and a parade of members wearing rally regalia for the event. This went over very successfully and ensured a good attendance at our rally. We also communicated back to the ACJC at their meetings, with a progress report.
9. Guest Speaker: Not mandatory, but for the Saturday night dinner a speaker of Jaguar repute can often be a highlight of that night. Melbourne used John Goss, we used an interview technique with our two D Type owners Warren Daly and Keith Berryman. 10. Venues: It is essential that suitable venues be available to conduct some of the “normal” things which happen at national rallies. Such as the sporting event, concourse display day, Sunday brunch and rally registration day. 11. Other: Some other areas requiring attention are Judges, Trophies, Official photographer, MC for functions, insurance. I could go on and on with other requirements, the list is very extensive . 12. Post Rally Tour: Finally, a post rally tour is always held. We did a run from the Murray mouth to Renmark. Following the river all the way. This event lasts for around five days. It is best to have this delegated to persons not involved in any other rally duties, as again this is a big task. I will finish this report with my final summary to the ACJC after our 2007 Rally.
The national rally of 2007 was a success in all aspects i.e. financially and logistically, participant numbers and promoting the Jaguar marque. Bringing all aspects of a Jaguar rally together is an enormous task and requires massive support from many club members. We were fortunate to have sufficient enthusiastic club members who became involved in all aspects of the rally. The delegation of duties on a Register basis did seem to work well for us.
Insurance is becoming a concern and is now a significant cost in running a rally. In a club with very little sporting interest, the sporting event was made only possible with the assistance of the Sporting Car Club. Without them there would not have been a sporting event at this rally. The rally committee has a belief that rallies of the future should become bi-annual. The task in holding an annual rally is costly and places enormous strain on resources and personnel. Concours could well become show and shine, as the challenge becomes greater in obtaining experienced judges on Authenticity. Future rallies could become more social events rather than sporting, and d’Elegance as is the case today. The committee also feels that a bi-annual event will engender greater enthusiasm from sponsors, clubs and attendees.
We enjoyed hosting the 2007 rally and derived enormous satisfaction from its success. The challenge now is to plan for our next one with the same commitment and enthusiasm with what no doubt will be a new team.

Our Club Patron, Noel Roscrow passed away on the 14th September. A pioneer and a gentleman who will be sadly missed.
Peter gave a general discussion regarding members becoming involved in the 2014 National Rally committee. A letter from Doug Tilley will be in the Classic Marque, outlining his past experience and thoughts.

CAR TALK
Paul - Non running project with lots of work to be done. Bought an HE ECU Computer for $60 on Ebay. See how it goes.
Brian & Sue - All cars OK. Sold Series 3 Sovereign V12. Had the Daimler Vanden Plas serviced and cut and polished the V12 E Type.
David - Didn’t drive it all winter, hooked up a battery and fired it up. Ran a bit hot but will look at temperature sensor.
Colin - Currently giving XJS front seats the full Leatherique treatment.
Tom - Have had the bumpers off touching up the car and treating the seats. Currently updating the website, facebook and twitter.
Peter - The Daimler is ready for Sunday.
Rick - Haven’t found solution to fuel problem in the race car yet. Still looking for a set of XJS HE Bumpers.
Roger - Had the seats reupholstered and currently giving Leatherique treatment. Coming up well.

Previous Minutes: Minutes of the September meeting were previously circulated and it was agreed that they were an accurate record.
Business: Newly elected Register Secretary, Robin Ide advised that, as has been the practice in the past, he intends to run future meetings with a minimum of formality so that we have plenty of time for socialising and car talk.
General Club Business
Registers have been asked for a final list of recipients of fire extinguishers. Action by Robin and Julian.
A sympathy card has been sent to Ali Roscrow.
Please liaise with Phil Prior in the planning of any events.
The Register has been asked to organise a meeting with UK participants in an Australian tour by XKs and E types in 2012. The tour will be in SA in March. It was agreed that we would consider a run to meet with the visitors at Birdwood and that Robin would contact the organisers.
A list was circulated asking members to volunteer as marshals at Jag day.
The club has been asked to provide some marshals for All British Day in February 2012.

Spare parts. It was agreed that there should be more discussion when Rob Loffler is available.
