Dielectric ScanningSchlumbergersDielectric Scanner (Fig. 2)is the new-
est of the companys wireline tools. The scanner is a multifrequency dielec-tric dispersion tool offering a newpetrophysical measurement. By use ofsignal-dispersion technology, togetherwith state-of-the-art processing, inter-preters can estimate pore-fluid androck-texture information with greataccuracy, independent of pore-fluidsalinity. As a result, precise saturationcalculations can be made in carbonates,in shaly sands including thin beds, inlow-contrast pays, and in heavy-oil
sands containing fresh water. An artic-
ulated sensor pad on the tool ensuresaccurate, repeatable measurements in
either water-based or oil-based mud.The borehole-compensated combina-tions of transmitter-to-receiver mea-surements at four radial spacings, operating at four different frequenciesand two axial orientations, thoroughlycharacterize pore-water volume, andpinpoint the Archies textural param-eters. The tools intrinsic high verticalresolution enables characterizing bedsas thin as 1 in.
