GET INTO PERFORMANCE MODE.The HHR SS challenges conventional engineering, with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged ECOTEC engine that

incorporates Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) to generate an eye-popping

260 horsepower. Available Brembo® four-piston front brake calipers and a limited-slip differential enhance the

control, while the standard fi ve-speed no-lift upshift manual transmission lets you run through the gears without

lifting off the throttle. Not that you’re the type to lift off the throttle. Neither did the driver who made the world

stand up and take notice while behind the wheel of the HHR SS at the famed Nürburgring racing circuit, as part

of the vehicle’s extensive development program. He didn’t just log laps at the legendary track — he smashed an

to be precise, with the rear seats folded down. The

The guiding principle is: enhance driver control to prevent incidents from

occurring. For 2009, all HHR models include a four-wheel anti-lock braking system

(ABS), the StabiliTrakTM electronic stability control system and traction control. If

a collision proves unavoidable, you can take reassurance from the fact that HHR

earned the highest possible U.S. government safety rating – fi ve stars – for the

frontal crash test.* Enhanced control, enhanced safety in HHR.

ENHANCED DRIVER CONTROL. PLUS FIVE-STAR PROTECTION.

1. STABILITRAK

StabiliTrak applies brake pressure at the appropriate wheel or wheels to address the causes of understeer or oversteer.

It responds in thousandths of a second when a lateral skid is detected, helping you maintain control and remain headed

in your intended direction. For 2009, StabiliTrak and full-function traction control are standard on all HHR models.

2. ECOTEC ENGINES

The 155 hp 2.2L, 172 hp 2.4L and 260 hp 2.0L turbocharged direct ignition ECOTEC I-4 engines all employ a dual overhead

camshaft confi guration that help maximize output. Their aluminum engine block reduces weight without sacrifi cing

strength. In addition, the 2.2L and 2.4L ECOTEC engines feature torque-boosting Variable Valve Timing and are capable

of running on E85 ethanol.

3. BRAKING CONTROL

For 2009, all HHR models feature a standard 4-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS).

4. SPEED-SENSITIVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING

Speed-sensitive, variable-effort electric power steering eliminates the hydraulics of a conventional power steering

system, reducing weight and fuel consumption. It uses electronic sensors to react within thousandths of a second,

for precision control and responsiveness.

5. PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM

The Passenger Sensing System on HHR SS detects the presence of a passenger in the front seat and automatically

suppresses air bag deployment when appropriate.**

6. SIDE-IMPACT AIR BAGS

Dual-stage frontal air bags** are standard on all HHR models. In addition, side-impact head curtain air bags for both

front and rear passengers are standard on HHR SS and available on other models.

7. QUALITY MANUFACTURING

HHR’s rigid body structure reduces noise and vibration, and makes it possible to tune suspension components more

precisely. Exceptionally tight tolerances between exterior body panels provide a level of quality you might expect from a

much more expensive vehicle.

8. FUEL EFFICIENCY

HHR is very fuel effi cient, achieving ratings of 6.2 L/100 km† highway (46 mpg) and 9.2 L/100 km† (29 mpg) city with

the standard 2.2L ECOTEC engine and 5-speed manual transmission.

ENVIRONMENTAL FEATURES

A series of HHR features help reduce the impact on the environment. They include: removing lead from the steel production

process, eliminating hydraulic fl uid in the electric power steering system, reducing oil consumption thanks to the GM Oil

Life Monitoring System, and using onboard refuelling vapour recovery to reduce emissions.
