THE GIFT OF PEACE “There arose no little dissension and debate.” Did that happen at work this week? Most of us can recall run-ins with coworkers, even with the boss. Did it happen while socializing with friends? Go easy on politics, religion . . . even sports. At home? Even the most peaceful household experiences a little “give and take” now and then. So where was it that “there arose no little dissension and debate”? That tumultuous con-flict occurred among our first Christian ancestors, disrupting the community life of the early church. But today’s Acts of the Apostles shows how beautifully the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus in today’s Gospel, helped the church achieve a grace-filled resolution. What evolved was that “reconciled diversity,” often encouraged by Pope Francis and even envisioned in to-day’s Revelation passage; and a wondrous experience of Je-sus’ promised Gospel gift: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Copyright © J. EL DON DE LA PAZ “Surgieron no pocos desacuerdos y debates”. ¿Pasó eso en el trabajo esta semana? Muchos de nosotros pue-den recordar algunos roces con compañeros de traba-jo, incluso con el jefe. ¿Pasó también mientras socializaba con amigos? Evita hablar de política, religión . . . incluso de deportes. ¿En casa? Incluso el hogar más pacífico experimenta un poco de “estira y afloja” de vez en cuando. Entonces ¿dónde fue que “surgieron no pocos desacuerdos y debates”? Ese tumultuoso conflicto ocurrió en medio de nuestros primeros hermanos cristia-nos, interrumpiendo la vida de la comunidad de la Iglesia primitiva. Pero en los Hechos de los Apóstoles muestra cuán bello es el Espíritu Santo, prometido por Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy, que ayudó a la Iglesia a lograr una deci-sión llena de gracia. DidYouKnow? Know the ways predators groom children. One of the ways a predator grooms his po-tential victims is by allowing children to do things their parents wouldn’t — anything from playing video games, seeing R or PG-13 rated movies, or trying drugs and alcohol. To children, it can be exciting or tempting when another adult says they get to do something they want to do and have been previously denied. For the predator, this begins to set up a per-ceived relationship in which the predator becomes a trusted ally to whom the child can turn. Parents should be aware of who their children spend time with, and what they do together.
