Basic Principle of DDI:
- Single Stage Process
- Black / White Densities created by TPH
- Film is sensitive to heat only
Single Step Printing

A#Sharp Imaging Technology
The main cause for the lower sharpness is heat spread and storage in the thermal print head TPH.

Features of Dry Imager: Direct Digital Imaging1. DDI films can be loaded in Day Light, as they are sensitive to heat only
2. DDI is a much newer technology
3. DDI imagers require very less warm up time (5 minutes or less)
4. DDI imagers consume amazingly low power, (to the tune of 700 W Max.)
5. Footprint of Agfa DDI imagers, Drystar Series, is small, saving space
6. DDI imagers produce a square type pixel, as Image on the film
7. Complete range of Drystar to fulfill the need of radiology & imaging
8. Ecologically friendly imager, without use of any harmful chemicals
9. Installed base of over 2,350 imagers for Agfa alone in India

Difference between DDI and Dry Laser:DDI
Single step printingEco-friendly filmsFreehand daylight loadingLess Warm up timeLess Components / ServiceLess power consumptionHigh shelf life (pre & post print)Compact to occupy less spaceDirect DICOM ready
Dry LaserTwo step printingFilms contain developing chemicals

No Imager is pure LASER:
Any Laser Exposure Thermal Development (LETD) Imager, popularly called as Dry Laser Imager, as the
name suggests involves Thermal process within the two staged printing process
:Stage I:Film (light sensitive) which contains embedded chemicals is exposed by a Laser beam. Embedded chemicals act to
actually create the Gray shades:Stage II:
Non reacted part of the emulsion (deemed white part) is removed by a thermal heater. Frequent replacements are required for the filters to keep this fixing process smooth.

Perception of Resolution:DDI
- Perceived resolution is better, even at the same addressability
Dry Laser- Perceived resolution is less, even at the same addressability
Conversion for commonly used interchangeable technical terms
-
11 Company Confidential
Significance of correct Resolution:DDI
- Modality CR Mammo(Input Resolution of 10 lp/mm)
- Imager(Output Resolution of 10 lp/mm)
- True Size Printing
Dry Laser- Modality CR Mammo
(Input Resolution of 10 lp/mm)- Imager
(Output Resolution of 12.5 lp/mm)- True Size Printing
?
Higher resolution of Imager is not always beneficial

Other technical parameters:Access Time: Better
DDI has much lesser access time contributing to meaningful throughput. One prints many different films on printer; rarely the same film many times.
Gray Scale Resolution: =
Throughput: ~More or less is very close to each other in a practical environment
Number of Input trays: =
Number of supported film sizes: BetterUse of 10 X 12 or 11 X 14 allows maximum utilization of space for images from the modality, typically with the aspect ratios used in medical diagnosis
Maximum Density: Slightly Lesser
Black Border: Not Available
